“Saturn, Beaches and Forest Walks”
Reviewed 6 February 2014

We stayed at Airds Farm B&B in June 2013 just after Mandy and Mick took over and while there was still a lot of work to be done in updating the place we still really enjoyed our one nights stay. After arriving we were shown to our room (a family room for just the two of us) which was very spacious and I loved the quirky bathroom which was down a couple of steps. This too was spacious with a bath and separate shower and toilet but with a sloping roof. We then headed back down stairs for a little Afternoon Tea.

I loved the view from the bedroom out over the fields and towards Loch Ken and Crossmichael. At night we got a great view of Saturn and in the morning there was the horse in the field and the hens wandering around the garden. In the morning there was plenty for breakfast and I’m told by the other half that the cooked breakfast was delicious.

In terms of location we just really wanted to be close to the Galloway National Park and we actually headed there first for a wander although Clatteringshaws Visitors Centre was closed at the time (less than 30 mins away). For an evening meal we got a few recommendations from Mandy and headed to Castle Douglas which was just 10 minutes away for an Indian (quite good actually). On the way home we took a little detour along the coast for the beaches - Rockcliffe and Sandyhills just 30 mins away, Southerness 45 mins away so it’s definitely a great central location for both beaches and forest.

Myself and two friends visited Airds Farm and from the moment we arrived Mandy was great, she made us coffee and toast and made us feel welcome. As we where out fishing all day Mandy made dinner when we arrived back. Mandy had also made us packed lunch for the next day (home made soup, sandwiches and delicious banana loaf). The dinner was great soup to start then lovely past bake and was very reasonably priced. The next day Mandy got up early to make our breakfast before fishing and also made arrangements for us to have dinner at the local pub that night. Mick arrived back from work and was very friendly gave us a lift to local pub and had a few beers with us. Mick was very welcoming towards us and was asking for any ideas on how he could make our stay more tailored to our needs (as fisherman). The drying room will be a god send when it is finished and the shop will be very handy. We will definitely going back and are looking to book in the next couple of weeks. Very impressed. great place to fish and great hosts to spend it with.

Myself and 2 other friends were on a fishing trip to Loch Ken. The weather wasn't the best but over all a quality weekend away with friends! Oh and I won the trophy! Lol. The b&b was quality throughout our stay from the moment when we arrived until we departed, Mandy and Mick have got everything spot on! From Cooking by Mandy which I have to say was top notch!!! And to Mick hosting us down in the local pub which he did not have to do! As I've said everything a fisherman needs with even more things on the horizon drying room for kit and also a shop which will be up and running very shortly, we will defiantly be going back!

What a find! I do not usually 'gush' about good service but this B&B is truly head and shoulders above any B&B that I have stayed at before. I thoroughly recommend Airds farm B&B to any and all. We had a weekend away combining hill walking with some training for our unruly Springer Spaniel. Mick offers expert advice on the training of Gun dogs, for which he is well respected. He offers training tailored to an individual dog (and its owner). He quickly identified the 'issues' with our Spaniel then offered sound and simple methods to correct them. For me the highlight of the visit was Mandys cooking, she truly is a gifted chef and great host; Her home made chicken liver pate is just sublime.

We stayed at Aird's Farm in September and had a lovely time. When we arrived we had a really warm welcome from Mandy, who immediately made us a cup of tea, and stayed with us for a little chat.
Aird's Farm is clean and comfortable and Mandy gives 120% to make your stay that bit more personal and special.Crossmichael is on the Kite Trail and we were delighted to see two kites flying over the road nearby. It is also only minutes away from the Feeding station, where dozens of kites swoop in to be fed. It is well worth a visit to this special place.

I get very little holiday time and as I had two unruly Springer Spaniels that needed some training I stayed in the cottage at Airds Farm with partner Nicola and the dogs. Firstly the dog training was brilliant thanks to Mandy's partner Mick.

The area is fantastic. Mandy who runs the b&b and holiday cottage is really pleasant and helpful. Great accommodation and made to feel most welcome. We also got through a few pints in the local. I will go again and would strongly advise anybody going to the area to stay at Airds Farm.
