We had booked the Yurt to stay in on the April open day which was subsequently changed by the Galloway Activity Centre to the following week which my family couldn’t make. When we alerted them to this Ben and the rest of the staff bent over backwards to accommodate us on our preferred date and indeed offered us a discount with an instructor for the day. The Yurt was really great and as described e.g. large space with a nice warm fire for the chilly April evening with our own adjacent outdoor seating and private BBQ area for the (yes sunny!) April day we spent there. We took our small dog and he was made welcome on site. My kids – both girls aged 12 and 10 had a great time with their friendly instructors on both the land and water based activities and are desperate to go back in the summer. The showers were really nice and hot and toilets were spotless so no problems there.
The only reason that I’ve given it four stars is because of the food in the café which was poor. That aside the Galloway Activity Centre and its staff are to be highly commended

Thank Mike G

Hi Mike
Thanks for your comments. I am so glad you had a great stay - the yurts are becoming increasingly popular. The activities too are developing and we have a whole range of new stuff arriving next month to extend the water park (which is shut until June - when we hope the weather is warm enough to spend more time in the water).
Fair point about the sausages - I have spoken to the girls and they have put their hands up - they are learning and on a steep curve. I hope you will try the cafe on the next visit and that this lives up to the rest of your experiences and expectations here at GAC in the future. I do hope we will see you back shortly....

We (2 adults, 2 boys) stayed in one of the Yurts at the activity centre. What a fantastic night we had! The yurt is well furnished and very cosy. It has all you need for a bit of glamping - just take sleeping bags.
I would highly recommend staying in the Yurts, although next time we are back I want to try an Eco Lodge - they looked amazing!
Showers and Toilet facilities all clean and fairly warm too.
Definitely worth a visit!

I stopped there again a few days ago and it was great, so good we plan to book again for May in 2015. We just used the bunkhouse and camping. The place is great although we did not do any of the activities, just used it as a base. We bought a Chinese meal in Castle Douglas, (food OK, but fairly cheap) and brought it back to the lodge one night but cooked the other nights.

I run the sailing at Windermere School and we were looking for somewhere to host a regular sail training camp. We spent the weekend doing Sailing, Zip wire, leap of faith and laser quest.
Nothing was too much for the staff at GAC and all the students had a fantastic weekend. We all look forward to next years trip.

Best Wishes,

Graeme Rowe

I had wanted to take my son to stay in a yurt for a while (for some reason). The weather was cold and wet but this didn't dampen the sense of adventure and we thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay under canvas, or whatever yurts are made out of. The staff are very helpful and friendly and stressed several times how they could be contacted for any reason. The yurt itself was fantastic and felt warm, clean and comfortable once we got the fire going. The showers and related facilities were simple but looked modern and clean and all worked.

In Summer this would be a different place buzzing with life - water activities, mountain biking, etc. But off season it felt quiet and peaceful and the night sky was amazing - this area is on the edge of Galloway Forest Park and was awarded Dark Skies status meaning it has one of the lowest levels of light polution in Europe. Stepping outside the yurt on a clear night during the hours of darkness was an amazing experience. Alright, so I'm an old hippy, but even my son put his DS down for about 12 seconds and hopped outside in his sleeping bag to have a look.

We had a great time and plan to visit again for longer.
