“FIVE STAR”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2012

Our return trip to Summerhill as we enjoyed it so much last year.
Robin organised interesting scenic cycle rides and walks for us to explore the local area.
Tina cooked us five star breakfasts to send us on our way.
En suite rooms are comfortable and furnished to a high standard.
Robin and Tina are excellent mine hosts and we are already thinking about another visit next year.
The micro brewery in Castle Douglas is a must too.

It isn't just the immaculate and beautifully furnished rooms at Summerhill that make this place so lovely, it's the little touches, the bowl of strawberries and the fresh flowers for example, that leaves you feeling that you're somewhere very special indeed. Breakfast is just wonderful - be it the delicious granola with fresh berries or the creamy scrambled eggs with mounds of smoked salmon or both! Tina will ensure that you're fed and watered to bursting point with fine and locally sourced ingredients. The cherry on the cake is Tina herself – the warmest and most welcoming host we’ve ever come across.

Should we find ourselves in this lovely part of the world again (which I hope we do) I wouldn’t consider lying my head anywhere other than Summerhil.

Room Tip: The ground floor room with private entrance looks and feels like a mini suite - a bargain at £85pn

Just spent 3 nights at the Summerhill during a mountain biking / cycling break in the area. The house is superb in every aspect from being a home from home to the superb spa after a long hard cycle.
Food is first rate and both Tina and Robin make you feel very welcome !! By far the best B&B i have stayed in during 28 years of travelling.

Thank you both once again

Room Tip: Both rooms are immaculate

I cannot recommend this B&B enough. The house and our en suite room were both imacutlate. the house is a new build at the end of a quiet cul de sac, with off street parking. Our room has it's own door, so we were able to come and go without disturbing anyone which was great as were were at a wedding so back very late. Massive comfy bed, fabulous power shower, lots of space.

Tina, our lovely host had thought of everything. Lovely products in the bathroom, TV with DVD player and great selection of DVDs to choose from. Tea and coffee making facilities, bottles of water. Breakfast was delicious, uisng local ingredients where possible.

I would stay here again in a second, and recommend to anyone visiting Castle Douglas and the surrounding area.

What a fantastic place to stay. Tina our host was warm and welcoming, as was the house and our beautiful comfortable room. All comforts have been thought of, and Tinas concern for our comfort was very evident. Breakfast was delicous, and again well thought out. Would we stay again, yes please, I hope our travel plans allow for it.

Room Tip: We had the ground floor room with a super king size bed and our own outside decking area.

Came up to Dumfries and Galloway for an interview and wanted a clean, quiet place and a bit of luxury before the dreaded day. Summerhill exceeded all expectations. Tina greeted me warmly and even gave me a plate and napkin on arrival for my dissolving sandwich purchased in Biggar. I had my own deck and the room was furnished in relaxing duck egg blue's and golden tones. Bathroom was luxurious: felt like a queen. Added touches - a good range of toileteries, towelling slippers and robe made me feel even more at home. Tina designed the house herself, maximising the light. She's chosen high end fittings throughout. Tina is a very gentle and friendly host and easy to talk to. Robin has a bike hire company which he runs from the house and I cycled out to Threave that evening. Castle Douglas is renowned for its food producers and I had local granola, sausages. bacon and eggs. You also get a good selection of fruit and yoghurt - grapes and berries. I will be back, it's such a beautiful area, great for walking and seeing wildlife and this is the perfect place to stay.

Now you are probably thinking what a ridiculous suggestion to make? Well a group of 5 lads from Liverpool would beg to differ.

We turned up at Tina and Robin's a group of cold, tired and hungry cyclists looking for a comfortable bed for the night. What we didn't expect was a standard of accommodation and hospitality that made our short stop in Castle Douglas an absolute pleasure.

The Rooms are of an excellent standard, of the quality i would expect in a luxury hotel. If that wasn't enough we also had an incredible Jacuzzi! After an hour in that all the aches and pains of the road were smoothed away, it was lovely!

We wanted to have a look round Castle Douglas and Tina recommended that we visit a pub where we could get a nice pint and food. I've forgotten the name of the pub (ask Tina) however they served the best steak pie!

In the morning we were all served a wonderful Breakfast, not the rubbish you get in some places. The cereals included Granola with fresh berries and strawberries followed by a big cooked breakfast with coffee, tea and fruit juices. We had a 70 mile day in front of us and that set us up perfectly for it.

Tina's husband Robin gave us some great tips for routes and places to stay as we were heading down to the Isle of Whithorn then up to the Isle of Arran.

All in all this was a perfect place to stay and i only wish we could have stayed longer, it is not just the standard of accommodation and food that makes this place special, what really makes it stand out is 2 hosts who seem to actually enjoy hosting people. It makes such a difference to your stay when you feel so welcome in a place.

So the best B&B in the world, well maybe that’s going a bit far, let just say it was the nicest place that any of our group stayed in on our trip around Scotland or anywhere else we've ever been.

Myself and everyone in our group would like to say a big thankyou to Tina and Robin.

Room Tip: Make sure you try the Jacuzzi!
