Just returned from a fantastic week camping at Loch Ken with the two boys (16 and 11 years). They both loved every moment and it was pure simple magical fun, kayaking, fishing and swimming in the Loch. Took us both back to our childhoods too! No flashing lights, amusement parks and dishing out money to them at every excuse... they didnt need it.
The Red Kites flew above and the deer were seen running through the forest over the Loch. We took a ride through the forest one day and found Otter Falls , where the kids played on the rocks in the river ( take a picnic!) The campsite is clean and there was ample room between the tents. The Staff were also very helful and friendly.
The only downside I would say is that the local towns are rather rundown and dreary so if you are into quaint villages...there are none....and if you want to find a pretty countryside pub for a quiet drink...there are none !! Best taking your refreshments and food to the campsite and spending the evening there with your BBQ and the beauty of Loch Ken !! Have a lovely trip everyone and I hope the sun shines on you
