Reviewed 30 July 2013

Just returned from a fantastic week camping at Loch Ken with the two boys (16 and 11 years). They both loved every moment and it was pure simple magical fun, kayaking, fishing and swimming in the Loch. Took us both back to our childhoods too! No flashing lights, amusement parks and dishing out money to them at every excuse... they didnt need it.
The Red Kites flew above and the deer were seen running through the forest over the Loch. We took a ride through the forest one day and found Otter Falls , where the kids played on the rocks in the river ( take a picnic!) The campsite is clean and there was ample room between the tents. The Staff were also very helful and friendly.
The only downside I would say is that the local towns are rather rundown and dreary so if you are into quaint villages...there are none....and if you want to find a pretty countryside pub for a quiet drink...there are none !! Best taking your refreshments and food to the campsite and spending the evening there with your BBQ and the beauty of Loch Ken !! Have a lovely trip everyone and I hope the sun shines on you

Stayed here 13th - 20th July 2013 and found it to be one of the best campsites we've stayed at. The friendly and extremely helpful staff are the first thing you notice then you get to the tent field and the amount of space is amazing - no worries about having somewhere to throw a frizbee here! Then it's the view, the beautiful view of the loch which you see from where you sit at your tent. There was lots to do without going anywhere, quality kayacks, rowing boats and pedalos to hire with life jackets included or you could just splash about in the loch :-)
Cream O' Galloway was great for my boys who loved the Karts, Biking and Down the Hatch as well as the burgers and ice-cream of course. Kirroughtree was fantastic for Mountain Biking!
No worries about cleanliness here, showers and toilets checked regularly.
The staff are a font of knowledge about great places to go if you do want to venture anywhere, we found them so enthusiastic about the surrounding area.
Loch Ken is only 1.5hrs from our house and we will definitely be back - I can't recommend it highly enough.

We stayed 20th to 24th July, cut short due to family illness. The location is stunning, with beautiful views along the loch. The caravan (Skylark) was very well equipped, and spotless. Excellent for wheelchair users, with wide doors and plenty of room, also a super wetroom. The site is ideal for kids of all ages,, with something to keep them occupied at all times. Touring is also very easy from here as all attractions in Dumfries and Galloway are within easy reach. Good attentive (though not overbearing) staff as well!! I have rated sleep quality slightly lower, only because of the heat at night!!

Whether you enjoy touring in your caravan or mobile home, camping or renting static accommodation, Loch Ken Holiday Park will not disappoint those who value the beauty of the Scottish countryside. The park has been designed to allow all a view over the beautiful Loch Ken where fishing and boat hire are available. It would be advisable to bring major supplies necessary for your visit however, local bus service is available, Monday to Saturday and the timetable is displayed within the information centre along with interesting facts to entertain visitors. Facilities include onsite shop, laundry and toilet/shower blocks and bicycle hire.Staff are friendly and approachable giving confidence in their obvious but unobtrusive care of the park. As this is a designated dark skies area, gazing at the twinkling stars in the velvet backdrop of space provides a perfect end to each day spent exploring the countryside and enjoying the beauty of nature in this tranquil setting. An experience that would suit all ages and definitely one highlighted for return visits! Enjoy!

Just back from a Friday to Monday break. We had visited the park twice before. This time there was 5 families with children aged from 4 to 11 yrs. Staff were brill they had reserved a separate are for us due to the large party. When we asked to be next to the park for the younger children it was no problem at all. The weather was excellent. In the morning the kids were fed and then had a ball playing on the rope swing and in the park. The boys loved the football field. Everyone made new friends,it is such a family friendly park. We hired the pedalo s and a kayak. The kids also loved the fire pit at night time. Loads of marshmallows . Lots of other things to do in the area... Chocolate factory and water sports activities not far away.
