Do yourself a favour and never stay at this hotel . The rooms are disgusting the carpets are filthy my daughter had white socks for five seconds until we entered the room the walls were tired and dated and the furniture was a total mismatch.
We went for dinner hardly had anything that they said they had on the menu!!!! They had a dessert menu that had 11 things on it and only had 4 things in stock, wasn't like hotel was busy although that doesn't surprise me in the least. Oh I forgot we had a steak and the chips and onion rings tasted like they had been cooked in oil that was about five years old totally disgusting!!!! And the chocolate fudge cake which my partner he thought it was a cross between a slice of best of both and a black pudding!!!!!
Then breakfast oh before breakfast tried to have a shower and whole shower head ended up in my hand. So I had to go to my daughters room for a shower which wasn't much better with a pink dated bathroom suite!!!!!
Then breakfast we'll guess what they ran out of haggis think there was only 6 people staying in hotel wasn't like it was busy!!!! Then the bacon was so hard and stiff it would have stood up on end on your plate or soled your shoe!!!!!! It was just totally disgusting altogether ! We had to leave and cut our stay well short one night was enough in the hotel of nightmares !!!!!

Wi-Fi but only three feet from the reception desk...cold shabby room with mis-matched furniture...mouldy bathroom tiles...bulbs gone...stained bath...grubby carpet......evening meal was dreadful...when I complained I was told the chef doesn't work on a Tuesday...its just a woman from the village.... well she needs to look up lasagne in the dictionary because I have no idea what I had....come on ur valley hotel....you have an amazing building....amazing location...get the channel 4 hotel inspector to visit you and make you worthy again...this many people can't all be wrong...

My wife and I stayed here with a group on deal on Nov 4th and 5th for our Wedding anniversary.

On arrival we where shown to our room by the owners partner and our room was like an ice box as the heating had still to come on, in fact the whole hotel was freezing even the bar and it had an open log fire but they seemed reluctant to really get a decent fire going.

We where booked into room 10 and as most other comments have pointed out the rooms are clean enough but really need a revamp, the lighting is woefully inadequate and I'd to bring two LED torches in from the car to allow my wife to see to apply her make up.....

We went down to the bar about 6.30 for a drink as we had booked dinner for 7 only to be told there was a reduced menu on that evening as it was the chefs day off and the 2nd chef had quit that morning... despite all this food, albeit limited in choice, was good and well presented and breakfast on Tuesday morning was enormous and enough to last you right through to dinner time....

Tuesday night things did fall apart, it was our anniversary on the Tue and we had come down for dinner all dressed up to the nines only to be told that restaurant was closed as it was being used for a meeting and dinner would be served in the bar.... I honestly at this point blew my top and for probably the first time in my life kicked up the biggest fuss under the sun.... the outcome ended up with them setting up a table out in a quiet corner of the reception area for us and Linda the manageress gave us the meal for free to make up for things... we were not the only ones though who hadn't been told the restaurant was closed as several couples walked out, it seems the owners partner had arranged for it to be used for the meeting but had neglected to inform the manageress....

When we checked out on Wednesday morning Linda the manageress told us we owed nothing extra for the few drinks that we'd had in addition to the free meal to apologise for everything....

Would we return again... despite everything I think we would, the food was excellent (I forgot to say that Dave, the chef, came in on Tuesday with his understudy having walked out) the staff where excellent especially Ruth and Jade who served all the meals and Linda the manageress is a wonderful lady... I'm not sure if given the current condition of the hotel if it's worth paying there full going rate but on a special offer such as a groupon I'd say yes go for it.

we stayed for 2 nights. the hotel is in need of a makeover but don't let this put you off. the staff and food were excellent. the room we stayed in was clean despite being a little dated and again in need of a few new fixtures and fittings. the bed was seriously comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. this is an independent hotel and you feel that the staff actually give a hoot about you which is always a plus. all in all, yes the hotel needs work cosmetically but this can be forgiven as it is obviously work in progress. we would not hesitate to book there again and will look forward to seeing the upgrades from the new owners. a good valued, welcoming hotel. really enjoyed it.

Room Tip: room 19 is very spacioue with great views

Having read the reviews the day before our visit, we were worried!!! The hotel is old and in desperate need of a face lift. We were told there is new ownership and there are plans to make changes - not before time!! The bedroom was cold when we arrived but the lovely receptionist gave the room a 'boost' and it was soon toasty warm. The room was clean, but poor décor and old mis - matched pieces of furniture, with old fashioned portable tv which was positioned on a low table making viewing difficult from the bed (yet there was a wall tv bracket) bathroom had no shower, only a bath making washing hair difficult!! Lighting in the room was poor - not bright enough and no table at one side of bed for lamp - it was on top of a corner unit, so we made a table using the luggage rack!
The staff were very friendly, especially one girl who seems to be there all day and night, waiting on everyone. we ate in the hotel in the (tired) dining room - you can eat there or in the (dated) bar. The food was really good and the portions were massive!!!!! I had lasagne and salad and it was delicious. Breakfast too was a massive portion - 10 different items of food on the 'full english' I opted for scrambled egg and bacon on the 2nd morning and it was the best scrambled egg I have ever had!!!!!
It seems there are changes planned and I hope they cater for the needs of customers, especially the 'little' things as this could be a truly magnificent hotel as it is in an ideal location/setting. Don't change the staff though, they are an amazing hard working team who make everyone feel welcome the minute you step through the door!

We thought we would give this place a chance based on some of the good reviews but had we not just driven 3 hrs we would've gone home. The hotel is run down, seriously needing a refurb. Our room was "clean" but dated with dirty marks all over the walls. Our room was also filled with flies. We spent an hr chasing them to kill them and ended up asking staff for fly spray - DISGUSTING. Our towels smelt like thy had been washed in grease then rubbed in an ashtray. Entertainment in the hotel was great, the meal was ok but main was burnt. Ordered breakfast in the morning and didn't touch it, it looked awful so we just left and went home. This is the real faulty towers. The same staff checked us in, cleaned our room, served us dinner and then breakfast??? The two ladies on the reception were lovely but the others needed a course in manners. I will not visit this hotel again and wouldn't recommend to anyone.
