“Perfect time in the Country”
Reviewed 7 December 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Burnbrae Mill is pure bliss for a weekend. It is perfect for relaxation and also getting a good walk about the countryside. There was an amazing Victoria Sponge waiting for us and it did not last beyond the first day. Wet room is amazing and the the places is suited up for all forms of media. Beds are comfortable and the place was nice and warm for a bitter November. Will be looking to return again next year.

“Wow!”
Reviewed 2 November 2016 for a stay in October 2016

This traditional whitewashed cottage definitely has the wow factor. It is in a beautiful setting amidst undulating farmland with a stream running past the front of the property, giving a real feeling of getting away from it all. The view of sunrise over the hills from the lounge is stunning. And yet Scotland's food town of Castle Douglas is only a few miles away with a superb selection of independent shops. Inside the cottage is very spacious with three bedrooms, a huge kitchen diner and separate bathroom and large shower room. It has recently been refurbished to a very high specification and you will find everything you would expect and more, including a log burner in the lounge. The owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome with tips on things to do, a selection of essentials on arrival and a nice surprise that I won't spoil. They have also provided plenty of things to amuse the family on a rainy day with games consoles, board games, DVDs, books and even a dartboard. Superb!

Stayed here at the start of October and had a great time, accommodation was spot on and could not be faulted. Definitely felt like a home away from home for the time we were there. Would recommend it highly to anyone.

“Delightful Property in superb location”

From the booking to the end of stay Allan, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful. The house was absolutely lovely, in a very tranquil area. The house is "upside down" with the bedrooms on the ground floor and living space on the 1st floor. This worked really well as there are 2 large French type doors in the living room and with these open you could hear the birds singing and the little stream just outside the house. And with a wonderful view.

The house had everything you could want, with a bathroom downstairs and a large wet-room upstairs. The kitchen was very well equipped with plenty of cutlery and crockery.
The beds were very comfortable and all were a good size, with lovely crisp cotton sheets.
It was immaculately clean as well, which is not always the case with holiday rentals.
And there was the Victoria sponge cake, as others reviewers have mentioned, the best cake I think I have ever tasted, it was worth the admission price alone.

The area had plenty to offer and the house had loads of brochures of local attractions. Lovely Forests, plenty of beaches and excellent drives up to the hills. Hardly any traffic as well, makes a change from the congested South East.

I must make a special mention to Allan who was the nicest guy you could possibly meet. So helpful and friendly without being imposing. He even invited my youngest lad up to his house to play football with one of his lads. My son had a great time and it will be something he will always remember.

“Very comfortable accommodation”
Reviewed 4 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We chose Burnbrae Mill because we thought it would provide comfortable accommodation for four people (two couples), and this indeed proved to be the case. The cottage is a converted mill, excellently renovated, with a clean, modern interior, good quality furniture, interesting pictures on the walls, and lots of maps and information about the surrounding area. There was plenty of room for us all, without being on top of each other. There are two good sized bedrooms with very comfortable beds (plus a third bunk room), and two bathrooms, which made life very easy. There is a large, extremely well equipped kitchen (including full stove with grill and oven), where several people at once can work, plenty of counter space, and the added benefit of a dishwasher and washing machine. There is a lovely dining room, with windows looking over delightful courtyards full of flowers and feeding birds. The lounge is very comfortable with plenty of seating, and views over the countryside. The weather was far from perfect, so the large TV was a blessing for watching the tennis and football, and when we all got soaking wet on a walk, we were able to light the log stove to warm up, and dry everything and everyone. We also, of course, received Suzanne's legendary strawberry sponge cake, which really was absolutely delicious (and I am not usually a cake eater!)
