I travelled with my teenage daughter, and two elderly female relatives who would have had difficulty with lots of stairs so this ground floor flat was ideal as there were only 3 or 4 steps up into the main accommodation. The flat was quietly situated and surrounded by fields (although, as said in other reviews, it is just off a main road, but we felt this didn't detract from the peace of the place). Parking was ample and we were able to get the car up to the door for ease of access for mum and aunt. The only downside for them was that they couldn't use the shower in the flat as it was an over-bath one.
The accommodation was pretty much as described on the website, very well furnished and equipped, with supplies on arrival (which we were grateful for as we arrived late) of milk, rolls, scones and fresh fruit - the fridge also being well stocked with butter pats, little jars of jam, cold ham etc. There was also a thoughtful supply of teabags, toilet rolls, towels a-plenty, and clean, comfy beds. The kitchen was fully equipped with fridge, microwave, full cooker, and even a wee dishwasher.
This is a great base from which to explore the 'hidden gem' which Dumfries and Galloway is: the accommodation is only minutes away from Castle Douglas which has fabby, independent shops in plenty to browse through. It is also only a few minutes away from the National Trust's Threave Estate with its wonderful gardens and house. Hopefully we'll be back!
