“A fine meal reflecting the past”
Reviewed 13 June 2011

Once again, the food was excellewnt at dinner chosen from the customarily limited menu. It is no reflection on the quality of the food to suggest that there are signs La Potineire needs to move on. There are many restaurants creating new, exciting dishes. The choice here is stuck in the past. Neverthless, delicious food, the best cheese board anywhere and excellent service. Still a jewel, just needs a refresher course!

“Foody Heaven in the heart of East Lothian”
Reviewed 23 March 2011

We've been coming to this very special restaurant for many years and have never, ever been disappointed. Small, intimate and with wonderfully welcoming service plus mouth wateringly good food, La Potiniere is quite simply one of the best restaurants we know anywhere!
The ingredients are always same day fresh and locally sourced. This is culinary integrity and flair at its best. Interspersing the starter and main courses are an amuse bouche, tastings of a soup or hot savoury and a pallet clearing fruit 'smoothie' remove. This is food meant to tease and tempt which means the whole thing takes time and is delightfully unhurried, without being slow. There is also a varied and knowledgeable wine list, at sensible prices - you get what you pay for and there's something to suit all tastes and pockets.
Scallop and ginger soup rubs shoulders with glorious, perfectly cooked, lamb cutlets; Parmesan and slow roast tomato tart with texture perfect fillet of sole. There is always just the right amount of accompaniement, whether it be vegetables, purees, sauces or pastries. The presentation always sublime.
Having just returned from our most recent visit - post a glorious Scotland win in the 6 Nations rugby - I felt constrained to write this review (something I've been meaning to do for years) to tell everyone else about this gem of foodie delights and hospitality in Gullane, East Lothian. It was a perfect end to a perfect day. Don't miss it!

“Well worth the journey”
Reviewed 22 November 2010

This is a small intimate restaurant only 30 minutes from Edinburgh with seating for about 20 -25 customers. We have eaten at this restaurant on a number of occasions and can only say that the quality of the food and the service is excellent with standards/consistency maintained at a very high level.

The dinner menu is fixed price and consists of 4 courses plus coffee and petit fours (they also include a couple of other little tasters). For starters, mains and puddings there is a choice from 2 selections for each course but they can offer alternatives if you let them know.

Enjoy the lovely warm bread on offer but don't eat too much as the dinner portions are of a decent size. My personal favourite is the Scotch beef which is cooked to perfection whereas my better half loves their fish dishes. I also can't resist their chocolate fondant which is sublime.

What do I like least? Waiting until my next visit!

Such a great restaurant - high quality, locally-sourced food that is delicious. Very attentive, nice service. Small, so very intimate setting, great for Sunday lunch with friends or romantic meal for special occasions. The wine list is AMAZING. Highly recommended.
