When we were looking at places to book for 2 nights in Ullapool, we found alot of options. Many were full, others seemed glamorous and pretentious. Dromnan house, owned by Ms Charlotte, seemed to be a sincere, genuine option. Getting there is easy, parking is no problem. We were greeted by the lady of the house who was very helpful and kind. The rooms are nothing extraordinary, but very clean. The house is located overlooking the loch, and it also has its own path to the beach. Breakfast was very good, always offered with a smile. A good spot for visiting the Ullapool area which is a haven for seafood lovers!

Room Tip: The rooms at the back overlook the loch

I know that's a bit like describing a trip to Moscow and starting with "the metro has nice lamps", but there you have it.

The owner is welcoming and polite. The rooms and general interior are that wonderful polychromatic mix that says 1980's Highlands meets Dame Edna. The garden ornaments are the final icing on the cake.

That said, the bedroom was comfortable and I had a good night's rest until the comedian in the adjacent room started whistling and banging doors at about 6am. So beware, the walls are thin.

The breakfast was served by charming young staff who were helpful and attentive. The food was well cooked and well presented. The crockery was wonderfully retro too.

I wonder whether some of the criticisms of this B & B are fair. Ullapool has a wonderful old world charm and if anyone wants a boutique hotel, then stay urban.

It does represent value for money. You just have to accept that there is a spectrum of interior design options up here that defy description.

Stayed in family room as catching ferry to Lewis the following day. Good room for three and shower. Best bit was the breakfast. Best scrambled eggs ever in a B&B. We will use this place again when we are next travelling to Lewis.

Three of us stayed at the Dromnan for the Loopallu festival and it was a delight. A few minutes walk from the main town gives it the advantage of being right on a quiet and secluded beach and the owners gave us loads of ideas for walks that suited the weather.

The bedroom and en-suite bathroom had everything we needed and there are kippers as well as eggs and the usual fry on the breakfast menu - glorious! I spent a couple of happy hours nestled in one of the sofas with my book for some quiet time, but a highlight, apart from the festival itself, was spending the end of an evening dancing at the local bar - as recommended by one of the guest house ladies. A real off-the-beaten-track bit of local knowledge for which we were extremely grateful.

all of Ullapool made us welcome, but the Dromnan also kept us very, very comfortable.
