We stayed at the hotel for 1 night. hotel is in serious need of fresh paint and steam clean carpets
The receptionist we had on the Monday 16th June was polite and helpful the room we were given room 21 was tired and in need of refurbishment, view was the local supermarket which was closed up. Bath should be replaced not just grouted looks ugly. Only problem we had was no remote for the tv, when we asked later for a remote the guy on reception hadn't a clue what we talking about. Not good having someone on reception who doesn't speak English. There was another guy who handed us a new remote but he never spoke . Remote didn't work still have to manually work tv.

Breakfast was edible and plenty off no complaints there staff, yes they were European but we're helpful and friendly .

We paid £78 for b&b I would say £20 overcharged definitely just a 2 star hotel with a fantastic location for ferry. The chippy next door served fantastic fish n chips, portions huge . food brilliant.

Would stay again if nothing else available.

Stayed here two nights in June. I suppose I should mention the positives first: the room seemed clean and the bed comfortable. However, the room was tiny (it was a single) with a very unpleasant bathroom and a dribble of hot water for the shower. The décor through out the hotel was terrible and the food at breakfast of very low quality.

Surprisingly the hotel was full (I guess it caters mainly for the coach trade) which says a lot about the popularity of the area and nothing about the hotel.

Don't stay here if you can possibly avoid it!

I can get over the fact the room was small - but reception couldn't tell me what room I was in (I had to ask which room am I in, after I was given the keys), then trekked up numerous stairs to get to it. The bathroom was not clean (particularly the toilet). But I didn't complain, as the hotel was full (as was the rest of Ullapool). I hope the load of German tourists didn't get a room like ours (I suspect they didn't). The bed was one of the worst I have had in Scotland and Ireland (having been here now for a number of days travelling). Nothing inspired me to eat here, not even other reviews. Would never stay here again, unless they knocked the building down and built something new - yes, it needs a refurbishment. And in this day and age, why does this hotel only offer internet in public areas?

Room Tip: Until it is completely refurbished (or rebuilt), stay somewhere else. A big disappointment, consider...

spent 1 night at the Caladonian and was very happy to get up and leave the next morning, this is in the top 3 worst places we've ever stayed. Unfortunately I only read all the other not-to-good reviews only after we checked in, every word is true and unfortunately worse. The room was decent sized, but VERY dated and not well kept at all (even though the managers responses to reviews indicates they spent 200k on the hotel, it is defenitely not showing). the matresses were covered with blankets under the sheet to try and hide the fact that you could feel every spring in the matrass. We could hear every word and footstep from all the rooms around and above ours. the hot water tap was turned off in the bathroom (to save money?!?!).
And then the dinner: a brushetta was a microwave heated peace of baguette with tomatoketshup (really!! no real tomato at all) and melted cheddar cheese with brown, dry small lettuce leaves, no dressing. the vegetables durinf the main were defenitely frozen, not fresh and very overcooked. the fish cakes (''homemade'' it said on the menu!) were also frozen ones and not homemade at all, but came from the deep frying pan. potatoes were the same frozen foods, thrown in the deep frying pan.
When we spoke to the (really friendly!!) staff about this horrible food, we were told that sometimes the food comes out frozen (instead of overcooked) and that we were probably lucky (staff obviously felt really bad, but said that they knew about this problems, got a lot of complaints, but that's just the way it is...). spoken to the (manager?) about the food and he ''felt sorry for us and apologized'', which was very friendly.... He also seemed not surprised about the complaints.
All the waiters were indeed eastern european, but unlike other reviews we found them to be very friendly and helpfull.
Reading through the replies from the manager to some other bad reviews, I noticed that every complaint is waved aside with ''the other group of 40 people really liked the food''. I know for a fact that 2 other tables sent back their food during our (short!) dinner time and during breakfast we heard an other couple complain about the bad food. And as I said, ALL the waiters are aware of the REALLY bad food quality, so I guess the manager has ''spoken to the chef'' quite a lot, but nothing seems to change.
His other remark that IF the reviewer WOULD have said something during their stay they could have fixed the problem doesn't hold either, becaue we DID say a lot about the bad food to multiple people and all we got was a knowing apologetic smile and a (very sincere!) sorry.
His final remarks about 200K being spent on the hotel: if it has been spent, it is a waste, because all the improtant things (cleanliness, proper food, comfy beds.....) are not up-to-standard at all and I when we spoke to some Scottish people (from Ullapool, some local people that live there!) about our bad experience they knew BEFORE we told them which hotel it was that we were talking about the Caladonian and they said that no local person ever goes there and it is well known that the place is dated and not well kept (they were being polite).
All in all a very bad experience during an otherwise amazing trip through Scotland.
Ps. we had a drink at Ceilidhs bar to escape our hotel and that was great and the food smelled good as well!

We stayed for 3 nights on a Groupon deal. Overall, this is what you would expect from a 2 star hotel. The room was warm and cosy and the bed comfortable, but it was small and really had too much in the way of furniture for its size. One of the chairs sat in front of the wardrobe, the door of which would swing open when the chair was moved! The decor is tired and in need of an upgrade; very 80's in style. The food was basic, but plentiful, tasty and hot. Buffet breakfast was much the same although there wasn't a huge hot selection. BUT...of all the hotels I've ever stayed in, this one has the noisiest, squeekiest floorboards I've ever encountered! They were noisy enough in our room and we found out just how noisy they were in the room above. Loud enough to be woken by them, variously over the 3 nights at midnight, 3am, 3.30am, 5.30am and 6.30am. And this was in the "new" extension! Needs some serious work done and I wonder if any of the management have spent the night in them?

Room Tip: Try for a room in the original building. Perhaps the floorboards here are in better condition then...

Thank you for your comments good or bad they are appreciated, i have mentioned the wardrobe to our maitenance team who passes on there apologies.
As standard we the management stay in a guest bedroom at least once a month to ensure that we can see any potential problems ect. We do know about squeaky floor boards and are working our way around the rooms as quick as we can to sort them out.
Once again thank you for your comments

We stayed at the Caledonian Hotel in Ullapool from Friday 6th June til Sunday 8th, we found it extremely friendly and comfortable, it is in a state of refurbishment at this time but we enjoyed our stay, for our anniversary, and we will certainly be back. The sun shine from the day we got there til the Sunday we left, fantastic all round.
The breakfast was excellent, full scottish and hot with as much as you wanted. Brilliant.

Room Tip: Ask to be in the part of the hotel that is near to the restaurant, it is a lot quieter than the othe...

This hotel deserves a renovation. The rooms are small and mine had the wash basin in the room while the shower and toilet were located in a small cubicle. The matress on the bed was convex and you had to watch out when you rooled over. For people used to putting things on their night stand - there was the problem of no night stand! breakfast was a wide selection and the staff kept bringing new suppliers from the kitchen.

Room Tip: Take a room facing the rear where the parking lot is.If you're above the dining/breakfast room a...
