“Luxury in an idyllic setting”
Reviewed 19 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We had never been to The Outer Hebrides before so we took pot luck when booking this house and we made the right choice!

It's just over an hour's drive from Stornoway Airport and when we arrived the house was lovely and warm and there was even a welcome hamper of treats to enjoy throughout the week- a nice touch.

The house is built into the hillside overlooking one of the harbours and the view is amazing. We loved sitting by the window looking at the view every evening and being June it stayed light until very late.

The house has been beautifully refurbished and furnished with a modern kitchen, gorgeous bedrooms with 5 star hotel style bed linen and the bathrooms have modern showers (1 has a bath) and lovely soft towels and luxury toiletries. The twin bedroom has a balcony with view across the harbour.

There is a little grocery store in the village on Scalpay where you can buy the basics, also a cafe/bistro which serves meals (we didn't eat there so can't comment on this) plus a grocery store and restaurants about 20 minutes drive away in Tarbert. Tip: there was a Tassimo coffee machine which is great, together with a supply of the pods for it but if there are particular pods you like it's maybe worth bringing some with you.

The location is ideal for visiting lots of places on Harris and Lewis and on Scalpay there is a wonderful walk around the island to the light house.

This is the perfect location and the house is luxurious and comfortable to come back to after days out exploring.

The owner was extremely friendly and helpful during the booking process.

“Very comfortable, well equipped house in a beautiful setting”

Myself and 4 friends had such a nice stay in Bannantyne House. We agreed that the photos don't do it justice either in the setting or the standard of the internal decor.

The welcome pack was lovely, the toiletries beautiful, the furnishings classy and comfortable - and we all particularly loved the hotel standard bed linen!!!

We ate at the North Harbour Bistro on the last night - wish we'd done that earlier. However, being such a central location, we were able to travel all over the Western Isles on day trips - North West Lewis, North & South Harris, North Uist, Benbecula. The only thing you need to be prepared for is single track roads and Highland cows feeding their calves in the middle of the passing places.

Then when we came back 'home', we sat in the sun lounge, relaxed in the window seat and watched the changing colours in South Harbour and toasted Bannantyne House with a small Harris Gin.

Slainte!

“How self catering should be done”
Reviewed 6 April 2016 for a stay in March 2016

I have never felt more compelled to write a rave review than after staying here. The house is beautiful, tastefully done up to a high standard but still feels like home from home. Lots of lovely little touches (like the very generous and completely fabulous welcome pack and gorgeous Aaron Aromatics toiletries) and a lot of thought has gone into this house and the guests that will stay in it. The location is simply stunning, the view from the front room is utterly breathtaking. There are lots of leaflets, books, DVDs and games in the house for the days the weather is really bad (assuming you get up from looking at the view!) and it makes a good base to explore Harris from. We walked to the lighthouse one day which is a lovely walk and every evening we went to a little bay round the corner to see the seals catch fish and listen to them barking and belching! The owner was very helpful at the time of booking and answering enquiries afterwards, everything was completely faultless. 5 stars all round!

“Great holiday!”
Reviewed 20 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Very comfortable and lovely situation. Very well equipped, though impossible to buy capsules for the coffee machine. Take provisions as Tarbert no good for groceries. View magnificent; great place from which to explore this lovely district. Bistro within a short walk is excellet; booking essential. Highly recommended.
