A llittle slice of heaven on earth, no better place to be when the sun is shining! Would highly recommend a visit!!!
This is the perfect holiday let for two families - and excellent value for money if shared.
The house is in a stunning location with views of Cluer Bay, Skye and the open sea beyond - and wildlife too (saw seal). It's in a lonely position, but that only adds to its charms.
The kitchen is well equipped - thank goodness for owners who realise you need more than 8 plates, cups etc if using a dishwasher, and this was greatly appreciated.
The house was cold on the rainy day we arrived, but Shirley the housekeeper is the best fire-setter I've ever come across and we soon had a roaring fire going.
We splashed out on additional logs, coals and peat (welcome bucket provided) so that we could have fires in both reception rooms throughout the week. It was a real treat to sit and drink a glass of wine in the evening and play old-fashioned games. There are radiators too that eat up electricity, but we only used them on the first day or two (limited consumption as a result).
The balcony is a wonderful place to sit too with a drink too: well equipped with table and chairs. And the area below the house great for pottering along the coast. The long evenings of light add to the atmosphere in summer.
I've mixed feelings about the limited WiFi: unlimited broadband has always been a stipulation for me, but our Swiss friends had found the cottage. It was good that the children/young adults were forced to do other things: play board games/Frisbee outside etc, but I was very aware of the limitations over our time.
I LOVED the two reception rooms: spacious kitchen/dining/living area that's great for communal living, and the very cosy, but roomy lounge with its big window with superb views over the sea, with window seat.
Be aware of the rough lane - you need to take it at the right angle and speed (but not too much so that the car skids on the gravel. We had to bring our car to the garage because of stones that had got caught in the wheel/brake.
And be aware of youngsters who don't close gates when told to (important with regards the sheep). Sorry, Fiona.
The location of the house couldn't be better for Harris - wildlife on the east coast (sea mammals) and the weird 'moonscape' and pools of water lilies in summer - with some of the best beaches around, on Lewis and Harris - all within a short car journey away.
Regardless of small issues, I couldn't recommend this place more - and will do to family and friends.
This is a magical place.
This was our 3rd time in Cluer Cottage and it was wonderful. A lovely comfortable house, right on the coast with nothing but sea before you, ever changing views to Skye and loadscof wildlife: otters, gannets, eagles... Glorious!
What a wonderful house for a holiday, amazing views and a very comfortable house. The isolation adds to its charm and you get a wonderful Hebridean experience. Harris is a must for all bucket lists and this house added to its charms
Cluer Cottage, Isle of Harris. We stayed at Cluer Cottage over Easter with friends and it was a truly stunning base. The Cottage is so private and in a unique location at the end of a long track. After a lengthy journey from Cumbria we were so thrilled to walk through the door to such a homely and well equipped Cottage with amazing views. The decor is beautiful and the fires were set ready to light. The kitchen was so well stocked it was just like home!
A truly amazing weeks stay and we will be returning in the very near future.
We will not go past this stunning Cottage as it ticked every single box and more.
Perfect Harris cottage. Brilliant, can't recommend it highly enough. We will definitely be back when we can.
the property is well kept, has beautiful views and has no neighbours, it has an internet connection although the previous visitors had used almost the entire allowance and it stopped after half the first day which was good as it meant the kids did not spend the holidays looking at their i pads, although may be seen by some as inconsiderate to any following guests. the only negative was the Scottish midge which were quite annoying.
