Great place and location. Stonning views, even could spot harbour porpoises and Dolphins from the living room. Fantastic scenery along the tiny roads and beautiful beaches.
We had really a good time here!
The website doesn't do this home justice. It was beautifully set out with everything needed for a relaxing break. Although we did go to visit the fantastic beaches a short distance from the house, we preferred to stay at the cottage. With the balcony/garden area overlooking amazing scenery. We had barbecues & plenty of comfortable outside furniture so there was no need to go anywhere else. We had everything we could possibly want. Although there were only four of us, (this time) the cottage would comfortably accommodate 2 families of 4, with the 2 large lounge areas. Thankfully for us the fires in both were set but only required one night due to the amazing weather we had. A great holiday and one that I will be doing again at Cluer Cottage. Very relaxing, the sky tv was only on for the football once!!
Thank you Fiona & Donald
We stayed in this remote and peaceful cottage in 2015 and decided a return visit was due. The week was blessed with superb warm and sunny weather which is always a bonus. Plenty of walking, reading, relaxing and sitting out with an evening drink, watching the lambs misbehaving in front of the house. There's plenty to do around the island including the famous beaches, extensive marked walks and the distillery in Tarbert. Returning to Cluer early enough each evening to enjoy the sun, scenery and solitude just added to the whole experience.
Cottage is very comfortable with open fires in both living rooms. A very peaceful location with a great view out to sea and, in May entertainment is provided by lamb gangs chasing each other around. We were blessed with great weather in May so made use of the patio and sat out in the comfortable deck chairs. Kitchen has store cupboard essentials and is the best that I have experienced [usually they have the bare minimum of kitchenware and no foodstuffs]
We ate out at lunchtime and cooked in the evening - relaxing with a glass of the local Isle of Harris gin.
This was our second visit to Cluer Cottage and we intend to return. 10/10 holiday cottage.
A llittle slice of heaven on earth, no better place to be when the sun is shining! Would highly recommend a visit!!!
This is the perfect holiday let for two families - and excellent value for money if shared.
The house is in a stunning location with views of Cluer Bay, Skye and the open sea beyond - and wildlife too (saw seal). It's in a lonely position, but that only adds to its charms.
The kitchen is well equipped - thank goodness for owners who realise you need more than 8 plates, cups etc if using a dishwasher, and this was greatly appreciated.
The house was cold on the rainy day we arrived, but Shirley the housekeeper is the best fire-setter I've ever come across and we soon had a roaring fire going.
We splashed out on additional logs, coals and peat (welcome bucket provided) so that we could have fires in both reception rooms throughout the week. It was a real treat to sit and drink a glass of wine in the evening and play old-fashioned games. There are radiators too that eat up electricity, but we only used them on the first day or two (limited consumption as a result).
The balcony is a wonderful place to sit too with a drink too: well equipped with table and chairs. And the area below the house great for pottering along the coast. The long evenings of light add to the atmosphere in summer.
I've mixed feelings about the limited WiFi: unlimited broadband has always been a stipulation for me, but our Swiss friends had found the cottage. It was good that the children/young adults were forced to do other things: play board games/Frisbee outside etc, but I was very aware of the limitations over our time.
I LOVED the two reception rooms: spacious kitchen/dining/living area that's great for communal living, and the very cosy, but roomy lounge with its big window with superb views over the sea, with window seat.
Be aware of the rough lane - you need to take it at the right angle and speed (but not too much so that the car skids on the gravel. We had to bring our car to the garage because of stones that had got caught in the wheel/brake.
And be aware of youngsters who don't close gates when told to (important with regards the sheep). Sorry, Fiona.
The location of the house couldn't be better for Harris - wildlife on the east coast (sea mammals) and the weird 'moonscape' and pools of water lilies in summer - with some of the best beaches around, on Lewis and Harris - all within a short car journey away.
Regardless of small issues, I couldn't recommend this place more - and will do to family and friends.
This is a magical place.
This was our 3rd time in Cluer Cottage and it was wonderful. A lovely comfortable house, right on the coast with nothing but sea before you, ever changing views to Skye and loadscof wildlife: otters, gannets, eagles... Glorious!
