“Excellent house on the edge of a loch with a family of otters as neighbours”

Fantastic well equipped house on the edge of the loch. All the kitchen equipment you could need available. Linen and towels were high quality. The only slight problem was the very low water pressure for the bath. We had a family of otters as neighbours that played in the bay in front of the house each day.
Stunning scenery and walks. The beaches on Harris are stunning with plenty of art and craft outlets to visit. A relaxing holiday with great opportunities for painting. Highly recommended.
Eva the owner was very helpful.

First visit to Harris.
Absolutely beautiful place!
Tigh Na Mara house is set in a really lovely setting right down by the water.
It is immaculate, very clean and well equipped. The kitchen is big and perfect for people hanging out having food, playing games and enjoying the views!
We saw seals and otters from the house!
Would highly recommend staying here!

“A beautiful location with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break.”
Reviewed 31 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The house is a hidden gem nestled in the bay. It has timeless character and the house is well equipped with everything that you could possibly need. Every room was a joy to see, with lots of games and dvd's for the kids. The kitchen area was the most used room on our holiday, cooking with the coal fire stoked up and socialising with friends was an absolute dream.

The history of the family and the house itself displayed around the property made us think of times gone by and wonder what island life would have been like at the time the house was built. I could not recommend this property highly enough and we cannot wait to come back in the future. Whilst the island itself looks quite barren and unspoilt when driving, it certainly throws some surprises with the most beautiful beaches I have ever had the opportunity to visit. The hidden lochs are a delight and the wildlife amazing. The otter made quite a few appearances during our stay and can normally be seen at breakfast time and in the early evening. He certainly was a little character!

The only negative thing about our trip to Harris was the invasion of the midges that we experienced. Make sure you get plenty of insect repellent for sunny days.

This aside, we all left at the end of our holiday wanting to see more and stay for much longer. This has been the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. If you want to relax the body and soothe the mind a stay at this house is just what you'll need. We normally holiday down in Cornwall but this has now become our favourite place and we will definitely be returning.

“Idyllic holiday retreat”
Reviewed 4 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Tigh na mara is a wonderful property, steeped in family history and perfectly located for a peaceful break. The main house is beautifully presented, very comfortable and right on the shoreline in a secluded position, benefited by the presence of the resident seal and stags! It is a perfect base for exploring the Western Isles due to it's location near Tarbert, and is well-positioned for those with a love of nature and wildlife. There is parking right outside the house and the local shops are well-stocked with any provisions you may need, though a trip to Stornoway may be necessary for a full week's shopping. My wife and I spent a happy week there with friends: cooking meals in the huge, well-equipped kitchen, reading by the fire and watching the wildlife outside our window. Unfortunately, no otter sightings for us this time, but the sea eagles nesting across the bay more than made up for it. No doubt we will be back in the future to catch a glimpse of those elusive mustelids! Thank you Eva.

Great location and great views! Spent 4 days over new years here. We had better weather than what yorkshire was getting. The house was better than expected, the kitchen is larger than what the picture shows as we spent most of out time in here with the log burner going.

“Location to die for”
Reviewed 31 December 2015 for a stay in September 2014

Just stumbled across Tigh Na Mara again whilst searching for our next holiday in Harris. My husband and I stayed here in September 2014 on our first trip to the island. The house is stunning, fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. When we stayed they were having some issues with the dishwasher however the owner couldn't have been more helpful. and was in constant communication. I could tell you about the beautiful furnishings and features of the house, but the best part was the view from the bedroom window - words cannot describe how fabulous it was, and we spent many an hour simply gazing out, watching the ferry go past and we were even lucky enough to be able to watch the resident sea otter going about his business. We also had fun exploring the small private beach in front of the house. A great base to explore Harris, only a short drive from Tarbert and we explored the entire island. Can't wait to go back and hopefully we can stay here again.
