“Two nights stay”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

Having arrived in Barmouth around 1930 in the pouring rain, bedragled and soaked we went into the hotel unanounced and asked if they had a room with a sea view. The manager was most helpful even though he was busy taking phone calls, he showed us the room we had been allocated and we were more than happy with what we saw. The room was clean and tidy. The price we paid for our two night stay was very good value and the sea view was superb. Although we were late it was not too much trouble for them to fit us into the restaurant for a meal. The staff were courteous and well mannered. Because the food was so good we ate there on both nights, the food was excellent and good value for money. No complaints from us, except we couldn't stay longer, we will be returning as soon as we get the chance.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 9, overlooking the beach and sea, 1st floor, no noise from other residents or outs...

We have just returned from our fifth three night special offer break at the Arbour. These breaks are fantastic value for money at £125 for bed, breakfast and evening meal. We find it worth while to pay the extra charge for a sea view room. The owners are great people and you always feel welcome. Highly recommended! Christine Kelly , Warwick

Having just returned home after spending 7 nights at the Arbour Hotel I cannot see how some of these 'alleged' guests have come up with such negative reviews. They hide behind anonymous names in case
they are found out not to have been guests at all!Certainly in some cases the dates do not check out in the hotel register. As I said we have just spent 7 nights at the hotel from North Baddesley in Hampshire.
We found Steve to be very friendly with a sense of humour that perhaps some people wouldn't understand.Karen was very efficient, especially in the dining room, where she ensured that the serving staff worked hard to bring our food and clear the plates. The public rooms were kept beautifly and bar prices were very reasonable
I would like to point out to the doubters that I have no connection with anybody at the hotel but just feel annoyed at the negative remarks some people have left. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble We did not have a room at the front of the hotel but that did not detract from our enjoyment. We had 5 nights of entertainment including 2 nights of Steve's games and quizes. It was all good quality. So I will finish as I started...If you want 4 star service pay 4 star prices. You won't find better in Barmouth.

Room Tip: 2nd floor beach view rooms appear to be the best.

We took this hotel as a last minute getaway and everywhere else was full.
The hotel was very clean and the hosts friendly, however the prices are extortionate for the standard of the hotel.
The whole place is stuck in a time warp of the 80s, the bathroom only had a mixer tap shower attachment over the bath which ran scalding hot or cold. I can't say as I have been in any hotel that doesn't have at least the most basic electric shower over the bath. A skinny bar of soap with a framed message explaining that other toiletries could be purchased from reception.
The info wallet in the room was helpful......told you what you were and were not ALLOWED to do, not at all friendly.
No availability of travel cot. High chair in restaurant torn plastic padding and no safety restraint
The breakfast was just adequate, instant coffee, fresh fruit was a bowl of tinned grapefruit pieces, there was an appealing bowl of lush fruit which I sent my daughter to get, turns out it was plastic.
The owner was overseeing the restaurant but didn't make any effort to look busy so just stood looking around, which is a little intimidating if not strange.
The final straw was the pool. We asked for the key to the pool, which opened at 10 and as our checkout was 10 we were told as non resident guests we weren't allowed to use it! ( never has this happened anywhere else before )
HOTEL INSPECTOR COULD DO WITH A VISIT
In summary
Overpriced
Time warp to a bad year in the 80s
Plastic fruit( in a restaraunt!!!!!!!!)
Inflexible
Not child friendly
Penny pinching

We recently stayed here for 2 nights and received a warm welcome from the owners Steve and Karen. We had a wonderful room overlooking the sea and it was very clean and welcoming with tea and coffee in the room. The restaurant has a very good choice of meals and all the meals we had were very pleasing and tasty. The staff all all very pleasent and the bar in the hotel is very welcome in the evenings. If you want a stay in Barmouth I would recommend this without any reservations. Enjoy

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room overlooking the sea.

The room was old and run down, there's a curfew to get in at night, check out time is early (with little flexibility) and the prices are high. But worst of all the owners are rude and miserable. We genuinely felt we were putting them out by staying there and that they couldn't wait for us to leave. I really wouldn't stay here.
