“First impressions ........????”

We booked our bed and breakfast on the lunchtime and set straight off to Barmouth. We hadn't realised the accommodation was above a pub when we booked and checking in amongst the bar crowd dampened our spirits. The staff were friendly and showed us through the "private" door to our twin room upstairs. The room was large and overlooked the street. It had an en suite, was nicely decorated and had good facilities. There was also a beer garden out back. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice for everyone including non meat eaters. The location turned out to be excellent for all amenities, beach, restaurants, railway and shops. Barmouth was a hidden holiday gem with lots to offer families and walkers and for sure we will be going back. Tal y Don also appears to cater for dogs in some rooms. I do not have an issue with this but to be really picky I was not overly happy to see the dog in the breakfast room being petted and watching the owner picking up their food with the same hand?? Overall the bar customers we very friendly and all went quiet after 23:00. I definitely recommend Tal y Don, it has a lot going for it and at a reasonable price too.

Room Tip: Do not have room 4 unless you like a twin room with beds on opposite sides of the room.

Very central, really well equipped rooms, great breakfast and really friendly staff. This is over a pub but because Barmouth is a family place there was no noise after 11 pm and we were right over the bar!

Old style pub right in the centre of Barmouth. Real ale pub and malt whisky selection. Room was fine and so was the breakfast. Good value for money. Only downside is there is no car parking but we just parked for free 100 yards up the road or you can pay and display across the road.

My friend and I were staying here for one night, having walked the Mawddach Estuary. The central location helped us as we were both a bit "foot weary". We stayed in Room 4 at the front of the hotel. Lovely room, great bathroom and power shower. The public rooms were also "pet friendly" too which was a pleasant surprise. The bar meals were excellent, great value and freshly prepared. Nothing was too much trouble. We needed to leave early the following morning to get the first bus to Dolgellau, and requested an early breakfast - "no trouble at all" was the reply. The full breakfast was just perfect!!!

Room Tip: Handy for the station

Stayed here for 2 nights in June 13, very comfortable, we were made very welcome. Food was very good always freshly cooked. Only downside is lack of any parking facility, but were directed to a nearby local public car park

Great food, generous portion and all home made and cooked to order however housekeeping of the pub and outside area need attention what can only be a dog pen has old excrement in it - not pleasant for an outside eating area.

Stayed at the Tal Y Don from 26th May to 28th in a party of four. One twin room and two doubles for single use was ordered. Excellent location with car parking overnight in the street outside or a car park opposite the hotel during the day. Excellent sized rooms and large en suites. The building is not modern but has loads of character and a good range of alchoholic beverages including cask ales are available in the Bar below.
Breakfast is served on the second floor and the quality and generous portions were amazing. Again the quality and the ample portions of the food served in the bar below were first class.
Overall, all in the party enjoyed the stay and all the staff in the hotel were extremely friendly.
All four in the party agreed that we would not hesitate to stay there again.
