“Comfortable room good food and welcoming atmosphere”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

We stayed for four nights and were very pleased with everything. The room was of a high standard, comfortable with a stunning view. Food excellent and the owners helpful and welcoming. We took our two Basset hounds and they enjoyed it too.

Thank you for your review. There are not many places in and around Barmouth that cater for dogs so we are happy to allocate three of our eight rooms for dogs, (or indeed any kind of pet), and over the course of the year we welcome many dogs of varied sizes and breeds. I'm delighted your basset hounds had a good time - the beaches round here are very dog-friendly and our canine friends seem to love them!

Great that you enjoyed your stay too!

Stopped here for 2 nights in July and have nothing but positive feedback. David and Heather are lovely and can not do enough for you, the guest house is spotless and tastefully decorated. The room we stayed in was very spacious, and the view of Barmouth bridge and the estuary is amazing to wake up to. The cooked breakfast was superb, and you could taste the quality of the meat/produce. I know this is slightly more expensive than your standard guest house/B&B but this is not a standard place - its worth every penny.

We really appreciate your review so thank you for posting it. Perceived value is a very subject thing and we know that there are cheaper places to stay in Barmouth but we believe that we offer an experience that is worth what we charge and we are delighted when our guests agree with us!

We hope to see you again sometime.

We have just returned from a one night stay in Barmouth and are delighted to have "discovered" Bryn Melyn. Our room was very beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. Wonderful to have comfortable pillows in a hotel for a change! The view of the estuary from the room is wonderful. We found the owners David and Heather to be friendly and the breakfast was, in our opinion, outstanding, Great variety of food and plenty of it, Scrambled egg beautifully cooked - not rubbery and watery as we have experienced often in the past. Love the bird feeders outside the bar and dining room. The lovely tranquil atmosphere was a complete contrast to the hustle and bustle of Barmouth during the summer holidays. Would highly recommend this guest house to other travellers. Carol and Stan Fourie

Room Tip: Ask for room facing the estuary.

Myself, along with my Daughter, Mother and Father have just got back from Barmouth today and from our wonderful stay at the Bryn Melyn Guest House.

We arrived on Friday evening to a warm welcome from David and Heather. David gave us a tour of the guest house and showed us our rooms. My parents had a double room and I shared the twin room with my Daughter. We found the room to be clean, tidy and pleasantly decorated with several excellent photographs of the local area taken by David himself. Both rooms had excellent views of the estuary and of Cader Idris. The showers were hot and the complimentary toiletries were lovely as well. The beds all have memory foam mattresses and were comfortable to the point of luxury.

There was a lot of choice for breakfast, including a full Welsh breakfast, salmon, toast, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts and juices. The service was fast and friendly and the food was excellent, fresh and tasty.

Our entire visit was brilliant and there was no cause for concern or complaint whatsoever. I would definitely book another stay again!

Room Tip: All rooms have excellent views and are very peaceful.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us. Your comments about the comfort of the beds is particularly welcome. We had received a number of negative comments over the last few years from people who had not slept well, (mattresses are very personal things), so we took the decision last year to replace all our sprung mattresses with memory foam. The rolling programme took about 6 months but every mattress in the house, (including the two 'extra' single beds that can be added to certain rooms), has now been replaced and the reaction from our guests has far exceeded our hopes and expectations. This is a very peaceful location and we like to think that the vast majority of our guests can relax here and sleep in comfort.

We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Bryn Melyn some time.

We stayed at the Bryn Melyn for 3 nights in July 2014, and had a wonderful time. The setting was very peaceful, with wonderful views over the estuary. Its just a couple of minutes walk into Barmouth, and the views makes the hill worth it! The atmosphere at the B&B is very tranquil, and the owners (David & Heather) make the stay relaxing and enjoyable. They were able to give some great suggestions on some local walks to do from the B&B, and recommended several places to grab some food in Barmouth. Well worth a journey to this area of Wales, and would definitely recommend this B&B.

Room Tip: The rooms are on the B&B website, and I think all but one look out over the estuary.

Thank you for your kind comments. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and especially pleased that you enjoyed the 'tranquil' atmosphere here. We felt upon moving in that this was a quiet, peaceful place and we have tried to support that atmosphere in everything we have done here since. Bryn Melyn isn't really 'party central' but we do hope that our guests leave feeling relaxed and rested.
We look forward to welcoming you back again, hopefully sometime soon.

We spent five wonderful nights at Bryn Melyn in late June to early July 2014 and can honestly say it is the best guest house we've stayed at anywhere in our 20 years as a couple.

The views are as good as you could possibly ask for, and it's so quiet. We had breakfast every day and, to our regret, only one evening meal, but it was all perfect. The evening meal was a bargain compared to other places that we tried too.

One of the highlights was being able to sit out on the terrace at the front in the evening watching the birds feeding and drinking some magnificent bottled Welsh beer and cider that David and Heather provide. Neither of us ever felt bad the next day either, so there's clearly something magical about the local drink!

We had Room 10 at the top of the house and found it to be just right. Biscuits and bottled water were provided fresh each day, the bed was very comfortable and the shower room clean and tidy with nice toiletries and a powerful shower.

For walkers, there are plenty of guides and maps available in the lounge, and your hosts are more than happy to offer their advice about all the local attractions and routes, too.

Incidentally, if you fancy a look at a lot of the coastline and don't want to drive, we paid just £20.00 (£10 each) for a round trip on the train from Barmouth station to Harlech, then returning all the way down to Machynlleth and back to Barmouth. Going both ways across the estuary on the amazing bridge was a treat.

The access road to the house is very steep and if you walk up it, my tip is to avoid the wide footpath that goes straight up to the house at the first right hand bend. It may be a short cut, but by gum is it a climb. Walking round on the road is much easier.

So there we are. I was tempted to post a one star review to try to put others off because, once you lot discover it, we'll probably struggle to get in again!

Be in no doubt, this place is very special indeed. If David and Heather will have us, we'd love to come back.

Room Tip: If it has a view, it doesn't matter which one you choose as it will be stunning. There's no...

I am very glad you didn't post a one-star review! Be assured that although we often have a high level of occupancy in the season we tend to book up late so if you can book a few weeks in advance you can be mostly assured of a room being available.
We really do appreciate your lovely comments and the positive review and are just thrilled that you found everything to be 'just right'.We'd love to welcome you back any time you feel like exploring the area further and look forward to seeing you again.
