Owner description: Barmouth developed as one of the major ship building centres in Wales during the 18th & 19th centuries. The harbour still has a small fishing industry but is mainly used by pleasure craft. The estuary is home to Merioneth Yacht Club. Lining the edge of the harbour are cafes, ice-cream parlours and a pub with pleasant gardens to sit out in and watch the world go by.

Great to sit & watch the boats & estuary on a sunny day! Grab an ice cream from the shop opposite, sit on one of the seats & relax!

“Good but could be improved”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

Barmouth harbour is a pretty little place that smells of the sea and has the usual assortments of little fishing boats and small motor boats that ferry people across the bay. There are plenty of benches where you can sit and watch the world go by. We had fish and chips sitting in the sunshine and watching the little boats. There are boat trips available and it is a nice place to visit. The area does seem to have declined a little since I was last there ten years ago as there are several boarded up shops and not as many shops as previously. The market which is on on Thursdays also seemed to be struggling. I hope that businesses start to return as it could be a wonderful holiday destination with just a little more investment.

Lovely quaint harbour, popular with families as a place to eat fish and chips, gently bobbing boats gives it a nice gentle feel.
