“Very Special Place”
Reviewed 11 December 2012

We recently sayed here for one night. The house is absolutely delightful, like being in your own home. We were welcomed with tea and fruit cake in the cosy lounge with a log burner and such comfortable chairs.
Our room was immaculate with a wonderful shower room and views over the gardens which in summer i'm sure are suberb.
We took the option of having an evening meal prepared and served by Gaye and Geoff, from a couple who enjoy a good standard of food this was as good as any reputable resturant and with the luxury of being served in a lovely dining room all to ourselves. An added bonus is they are licensed which enabled us to enjoy a bottle of Chablis followed by a second one relaxing by the fire after our delicious meal.
A full welsh breakfast was suberb, with home made lemon curd, raspberry jam and marmalade from a local souce to try on the toast.
A first class B&B without a doubt, wouldn't heasitate to recommend and will return with a doubt. Thankyou both.

So glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Hopefully the coming Summer will provide sunny weather giving you an opportunity to return to enjoy the panoramic views while enjoying some of our home grown strawberries and raspberries. Thanks for choosing Cefn-y-Dre.

We loved staying at Cefn-y-Dre; Gaye and Geoff really have made this a special place to stay. Delicious tea & cake on arrival after a long journey (thanks for the recipe, Gaye - I have baked it three times since we stayed!), a very comfortable room and delicious food. The elegant but cosy sitting room (with a grand piano to play, a log fire and no TV) was the perfect place to relax after a long day walking on the coast path. Gaye and Geoff have put so much care into every aspect of the b&b and were the perfect hosts - partly because they were so welcoming and had plenty of good local area recommendations, and partly because they really know what guests are looking for, from their careers in the tourist industry. The breakfasts were really memorable, not just the beautifully cooked full breakfasts, but also the selection of fruit (raspberries from the garden), yoghurt and muesli and home-made bread, jam etc. We stayed in the Preseli Room, but I would recommend the ensuite double at the front of the house which has been very tastefully redecorated and thoughtfully remodelled, with a lovely view over the garden and away from the workings of the farm behind. I very much hope to come back and would recommend Cefn-y-Dre unreservedly.

Thanks for taking the time to share your comments. We are always delighted when guests share their views on what we offer. The newly refurbished Gallery Room is now fully functional and hopefully we will be able to welcome you back to experience it for yourself.

Terrific house in the hills above Fishguard. Peaceful location, friendly and warm welcome, spotlessly clean rooms and fantastic breakfast.
Very large gardens to roam and a guest lounge with a log burning stove, just the job for those chilly evenings.

Room Tip: All are great.

I can't speak highly enough of this lovely B&B. From the second we arrived, and were welcomed with tea and cake, we were made to feel so welcome in this lovely house in the Pembrokeshire countryside, looking over to the Preseli hills.

Gaye and Geoff really care about their house and their guests and it shows in every aspect. We stayed in the twin room, which was en-suite. Our room was very nicely furnished, clean and comfy and a perfect size, and the en-suite was just right and also very clean. We had excellent advice on where to eat and visit in the area, and oh, the breakfasts. I can still taste the fabulous lemon geranium syrup, the (very!) local free range eggs, the fresh raspberries, the yummy Welsh pancakes with the local cheese and ham....

There is also a very pretty sitting room for guests to use, and if you can't bear to be away from technology for too long, the B&B does have WiFi and is also licensed. Heartily recommended.

Room Tip: If you don't book directly with the B&B, do ring or email in advance to get directions to th...

We're really pleased you enjoyed your stay and sampled some of the additional items we offer at breakfast. Have moved one of the Lemon Geranium plants into the house hoping to ensure a supply of leaves during the winter for the syrup!

Cefn-y-Dre is a lovely quiet bed and breakfast in wonderful farmland surroundings. A short drive from Fishguard, we were welcomed with homemade Welshcakes and tea. Our room was large, clean and very comfortable, with bathrobes provided for the short walk to our private bathroom. We loved having fresh local milk in a small flask in our room for our morning tea - a nice touch. Geoff's breakfast was delicious and both Geoff and Gaye were helpful, attentive and very welcoming.

Room Tip: When we visited there were only 2 rooms - a double with a bathroom along the corridor, and a twin wi...

This really had the "home from home" feeling right from the friendly welcome with tea and homemade cake. The rooms are spacious and clean, the bed huge and comfortable, and the breakfasts excellent. It is quite a walk from Fishguard centre but a lift from the hosts was available for the evening meal. The second evening we ate at the B&B, cooked by the hosts, and it was excellent in quality (fresh veg from the garden) and value for money. Fully deserves its 5 star rating.

Both Geoff and Gaye are perfect generous hosts. The house so comfy and has quite a bit of history. The breakfasts are a perfect way to set you up for the day. Try Gaye's Kedgeree it’s fabulous. Geoff can cook too; we had a wonderful lamb dish on the first evening, with fresh vegetables picked from the garden that afternoon! Delicious! We were lucky enough to be in Fishguard when its annual International Music Festival was on. Gaye was so helpful, and got us tickets to see the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera at St David’s Cathedral. The orchestra was conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes CBE and with the virtuoso Tasmin Little playing Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending. It was beautiful. This part of the world is so stunning and unspoilt. You must have fish and chips at The Shed in Porthgain, yummy! and finish off with an ice-cream. Visit Newgale beach, and the Melin Tregwynt Woollen Mill, it sells the most gorgeous blankets, coats, slippers and lots of other things. I could go on. To finish, if you stay at Cefn-y-Dre you will have a relaxing, peaceful, just wonderful time. Gaye and Geoff will make you feel so welcome. It is a place you can go back to.
