“What a find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2013

After travelling from Cardiff in the afternoon and visiting a restaurant nearby, we drove into the drive of Cefn y dre.I was recommended this B&B by a local Pembrokeshire resident but I wasn`t expecting a manorhouse. As we negotiated a gentle u turn and saw the frontal aspect of Cefn y dre- it was stunning in the early evening light.-I knew we had arrived- with a great dollop of luck on our side!
Daffodils and primroses graced the garden .We found the parking area with ease and knocked on the door.We were greeted by Geoff and after we disposed of our luggage to our rooms , we were invited for a cup of tea and coffee (our preference-we had `phoned them to tell them we had dined in Fishguard) Gaye popped in the sitting room for a welcoming chat and then we retired to our respentive rooms.
The home is delightful - it has been furnished with interesting Welsh paintings and furniture which suits the period of the house.
I kept looking round and wondered which rooms did Lloyd George enjoy? (his brother married the lady of the house in the early twentieth century.)
IWe enjoyed the breakfasts which offered such a variety -full welsh breakfast ; haddock; kippers to name but a few.
I noticed that Geoff and Gaye paid close attention to detail to make our stay special. We enjoyed our 2 night break. We are resolute that we will pay another visit next year.
My travelling companion will be writing his own review.

It was lovely to meet you both; and thank you very much for the kind review. As you enjoy music, you might like to know that this year's Fishguard International Music Festival dates are 10-28 July. Hope to see you again soon.

Despite arriving late on Friday night, we were given a warm welcome and were offered tea. We both had a full Welsh Breakfast cooked by Geoff - which was very yummy and made from local produce. After a day out, we returned to tea and home made cake, still warm from the oven. We had a nice evening in front of the log burner playing scrabble, drinking a lovely bottle of red. Geoff and Gaye were very warm hosts, and very knowledgeable about the area. You won't be disapointed!

Room Tip: We stayed in the gallery room, and it was really lovely. Under heating flooring in the en suite, ele...

Arrived to a welcome of tea and cake and the warmth of the log burner in the lounge. Gaye and Geoff are extremely knowledgeable about the area and provide a wealth of tips and suggestions about what to do and seee and where to eat. We stayed in the Gallery Room which was very comfortable indeed and spacious and had views over the front lawns and across the fields. The ensuite was equipped with a large shower and underfloor heating.....wonderful. A tea/coffee tray with fresh milk was available in the room. Bring some biscuits with you. There was a very good choice at breakfast with the hot dishes freshly made and a breakfast which set us up for the day. We ate dinner on two nights - three excellent courses - which would have graced the finest restaurant. The focus was very much on the food served being fresh and local. Cefn-y-Dre has a licence to serve wines etc so we were not denied our favourite 'tipple'. The only improvements we would suggest would be the installation of a power socker near one of the room mirrors - for the hairdryer etc and when it was chilly the heating could have come on a bit earlier so that all the rooms used by guests were always cosy. Would we return - absolutely - and there is no better recommendation than that.

Room Tip: It is unlikely you will be disappointed whichever room you stay in.

Your comments are invaluable. So pleased that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated our endeavours to serve fresh and local produce.
Your point with regard to the lack of sockets by mirrors is taken and being acted on (We spent a night in the room you occupied, after which Gaye could not agree with you more) With regards to the heating, a faulty thermostat in the underfloor heating system was found after your departure and replaced immediately. Thank you for staying and taking the time to post your comments.

We were touring the Welsh coast line and booking on day by day and found this great B & B on line. We were greeted by Gaye who provided us with tea, cake and a warm fire in a private residents lounge. Although we had only contacted her that morning our room was ready and very well equipped. Lovely bedding, fantastic shower and tea and coffee facilities, not to mention the 40inch wall mounted t.v screen facing the bed. It was too short notice to expect any food that evening but Gaye rang a local restaurant for us and nothing was too much trouble for her. After a wonderful breakfast cooked by Geoff we set off on our onward journey but after staying in several B and Bs that week this one stands out as one of the best.

Really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and the warm fire in the wood burner. Its proving to be very popular with cold and damp walkers coming in from the Coastal Path at the moment!

Desperately needed a refuge from the rain and cold. We were in our campervan near to Fishguard and I had flu to make matters worse. We were welcomed by Geoff with afternoon tea and wood fire. Bliss. Breakfasts are amazing and if you book a dinner there you will so enjoy!!
Geoff and Gaye are extremely gracious hosts and we felt very welcome and cossetted. The room with the wonderful bathroom was excellent--underfloor heating is to be recommended!!
As for the bedroom itself. one felt as if one could disappear among the duvet and pillows and only emerge in spring!! Plenty of tea and coffee and fresh milk available in your room if you want it and really, nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. Thank you so much for much needed TLC.

Room Tip: If the weather is cold go for the underfloor heated bathroom!!!

We loved our room (especially the bathroom with underfloor heating), and the views. Gaye and Geoff were friendly and welcoming; always happy to help find local places to eat and to visit. We stayed for four days but it wasn't long enough!

We recently sayed here for one night. The house is absolutely delightful, like being in your own home. We were welcomed with tea and fruit cake in the cosy lounge with a log burner and such comfortable chairs.
Our room was immaculate with a wonderful shower room and views over the gardens which in summer i'm sure are suberb.
We took the option of having an evening meal prepared and served by Gaye and Geoff, from a couple who enjoy a good standard of food this was as good as any reputable resturant and with the luxury of being served in a lovely dining room all to ourselves. An added bonus is they are licensed which enabled us to enjoy a bottle of Chablis followed by a second one relaxing by the fire after our delicious meal.
A full welsh breakfast was suberb, with home made lemon curd, raspberry jam and marmalade from a local souce to try on the toast.
A first class B&B without a doubt, wouldn't heasitate to recommend and will return with a doubt. Thankyou both.
