“Excellent again.”

Another fantastic three nights in this hotel. After many visits to this hotel our stays here keep getting better and better! Great food (Spencers is very good) and service in fantastic surroundings. Looking forward to staying again.

Dear Moleeuk,

Thanks for your feedback following your recent stay at The Metropole. Delighted that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

Thank you also for your separate review of Spencers Brasserie, It's a great little place with a wonderful team led by Jonny in the Restaurant and Relli and Chris in the Kitchen. The whole team really does a great job and are a credit to themselves.

We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

I stayed here again for a Conference in late February 2014. It is a nice Victorian building - spacious and nicely proportioned rooms. The facilities worked well for the conference and the catering and general service by the hotel were good. Meals were well served, good food and attentive staff. Breakfast was a selection from a pretty wide range of choices.
The hotel is located right in the town and opposite some public gardens. Well positioned if you want to get out for a stroll.
My room on the second floor was comfy and warm and fairly well appointed. Twin beds; very comfortable. I had a nice view out over the public gardens.

We visited the hotel using a voucher which proved to be remarkable value for money. The hotel is an interesting Victorian building which has been carefully updated to provide very comfortable surroundings. I had requested a double room and having discovered we were in a twin, the receptionist helpfully reallocated us to a delightful and tastefully decorated family room which had a huge double bed and separate room with bunk beds - any family would find this an excellent room to stay in. Everything was very clean and well maintained. Our package included a 6 course taster menu with a glass of champagne, the food was very good indeed and despite the number of courses, not overfacing at all. All the staff are efficient and friendly and I agree with a previous reviewer, Vaughan is a joy with his beaming smile and cheerful manner! The bed was supremely comfortable, the only glitch was what appeared to be a lack of hot water in the morning but on reflection, perhaps this may have needed the tap to run for longer in such a large hotel. The cooked breakfast was one of the best we have had using excellent local produce. The Spa looked lovely but we didn't really have time to take advantage of the facilities. It is good to find an independent family-run hotel which still has the personal touch and we would thoroughly recommend it.

Sadly it was not the best of days to be travelling let alone visiting due to the weather on the day being non stop beating down rain making our day run very late we arrived around 8 pm met by very helpful and courteous staff we booked in and were told that the main restaurant would be closing soon and did we still want food we said yes and they waited for us too come down though running a bit behind they carried on and served as well as if we were the first through the door with an awsome taster menu which was very tasty and very filling the bar at the front of house was very pleasant and modern with nice quirky decor staff to were very pleasant, The room was I suppose as you would expect from a building of this age but there had been a lot of updating to keep up with todays requirements and expectations the bath was nice and relaxing and bed comfy sadly though the morning came a bit to quick but breakfast was nice and plentyful in a very sunny room overlooking the rear of the hotel which looked very different in the sun rather than the rain when we arrived we only wish we had had more time to make use the facilities which were on offer to us during our overnight stay

What a great find. Perfect half-term jumping off point for small treks into the Elan Valley (stunning). First things first. For those looking for a bland corporate 5 star ubiquitous samey-samey thing but on-the-cheap, this is NOT it. Move along, or stump up the cash and go fulfil those "luxury" dreams...in Dubai. Its a 4 star. Great Food, great accomodation, tidy rooms, detailed-focussed staff. Great Spa (deep tissue massage was the best!) Its independent so the decor is bound to be quirky. Get over it or head to nearest Radisson/Hilton etc.
Its a 4 star. I noticed that quietly behind the main door, the management had fixed a poster signed by all staff striving to be the best hotel they could be. I found that the personal touch really shone through amongst all staff members be they long timers or younger staff. My two young kids loved the experience and we finished each day in their brilliant pool. Very warm, very clean, great.

Dear Family Sanders,

I was absolutely delighted to read that we helped make your half term an enjoyable one. I shall make sure that my great team here at the hotel get to read your kind comments.

The Metropole is different, in a good way we think, and some people get it, as you clearly do and some don't. You are quite right in what you say, if you want modern, bland, corporate, boring, The Metropole is not for you.

I hope we shall have the pleasure of welcoming the Sanders Family back again soon.

My wife and I visited the Metropole on a travel zoo voucher. The staff were at all times courteous and helpful. The atmosphere is updated Victorian, which we found rather charming and relaxing, the room and public areas were clean and tidy. Our room was spacious and well appointed, the bed large and extremely comfortable. The bathroom, although a little small, was also clean and well appointed. The walk in shower had a choice of two shower heads, and shampoo and shower gel were supplied. The restaurant was airy and simply, but pleasantly decorated, the staff efficient and pleasant. It was particularly nice talking to Vaughan from St. Vincent. The six course taster menu, which was part of our package, was enjoyable, if a little unadventurous. The wine list was good, and the wines reasonably priced, this was the only glitch in the service, the wine waiter, in serving the wine, managed to drip two large splashes of wine onto the tablecloth whilst serving my wife's wine, and to dribble wine down the outside of my glass, which I had to wipe with a napkin to prevent it dripping on my clothing. Not a big deal, but an apology would have been acceptable. The spa facilities were excellent, the novel kidney shaped pool was particularly good, the entrance to it being very easy and safe. All in all, a good stay, and very good value on the voucher.

Room Tip: For quietness, choose room 102, as, although it doesn't have much of a view, it is situated at t...

We booked the dinner bed and breakfast deal through travelzoo for a family reunion – 22 adults and 15 children / teenagers, Saturday February 22nd We were delighted with the hotel and facilities. The staff were brilliant in every way and they couldn't do enough for us! They were especially good with the children.
We had a lovely meal with a glass of Champagne.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone and will definitely book again!
