We have had lunch at Spencers twenty or more times over the last 5 years and not written a review! Not sure why not! Anyway my new TripAdvisor policy is to leave a review everywhere we go and do our little bit to help a site we use all the time ourselves for recommendations. So as we had lunch at Spencers again yesterday......!

I guess 20 plus visits over the years says it all really. Spencers is our 'go to' whenever we anywhere around the Llandrindod area. The food is consistently good and freshly prepared. Whilst not the cheapest around it is always money well spent so that justifies paying a little (and I do mean a little) more than you might pay elsewhere but then risk be disappointed. At Spencers you can order and relax knowing the meal that comes will be enjoyable. The service is friendly and very polite and the atmosphere extremely relaxing and 'with character' which can not be said of most larger hotels. There is a gentle elegance about The Metropole (which boasts Spencers as its bar/brasserie) but it has a laid-back feel and just quietly gets on with 'being there' as it has been for well over 100 years. The owner is the great great grandson of the founder and I think that family ownership comes through in the way the hotel presents itself and in the care taken with staff quality. It always feels like the staff actually quite enjoy being there and get on as a big team which in turn of course much improves the experience for guests and diners alike. The large reception lounge is a great place for gently watching the world go by too. Recommended - would be very surprised if you leave disappointed.

Having visited on many occasions privately and for business lunches, with groups varying from three to eight, I can`t criticise in general as previously we have found it good.I agree with some other comments that a little expensive, but fortunately cost was not a great consideration. It was therefore unfortunate that after having a bad experience with both service and presentation we made a complaint to management. The reply from the owner of hotel, basically said sometimes there are problems but the majority of customers are happy. This could and should have been handled better and we would still be customers.

Yes it is more expensive than other places in town, but the food is excellent, I visit on average monthly and enjoy myself every time. We love sitting in the "goldfish bowl" at the front and watching the world go by. It is very clean and tidy and the staff very friendly and helpful.

We've lunched here a couple of times recently, both times on a Saturday. The menu seems interesting and varied with lots of talk about locally sourced ingredients but sadly although the food is OK it isn't anything special. It's also a bit pricey considering the quality of the food.

The brasserie itself is a nice place to eat and has a pleasant airy modern atmosphere with comfortable sitting areas but the service was very slow. It appeared to be understaffed for the number of people eating there on a busy Saturday lunchtime.

Having tried it twice and come away feeling slightly disappointed we probably won't go again.

We always meet here for a girl's lunch and catch-up, good food, nice people and friendly staff. Little bit pricey but well worth it - you get what you pay for. Spa is heavenly too.
