“'The perfect Bed and breakfast!'”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

After our (sadly) only one night spent here I wrote one word in the guest book...Perfect!

Is it possible to provide a perfect stay? I guess it depends on ones requirements and realistic expectations. Here is a purpose built guest room (we had the Meadow suite) which caters for the most discerning guests. A 6ft wide King size comfortable bed with sumptuous linen, lovely and tastefully decorated spotless room and en-suite. Flat screen TV and free wi fi, extra touches of fresh fruit and a selection of chocs.
Breakfast, beautufully prepared to order and delivered fresh to your room where you eat before a fabulous view. As a coffee officianardo I welcomed the french press and quality ground coffee, but for those others who prefer instant or tea, there is a grand selection of both; fresh milk is in the fridge. My praise for our hosts Nev and Glen is unbounded as this is the best experience we have had from any bed and breakfast internationally!! It does not get better than this!! Hotelliers take note. It can be done well; it just needs this level of passion and professionalism. Maybe Glen and Nev should start a training school! Malcolm S Stott

Smithfield Farm must be Wales best kept secret! I can't begin to put into words how amazing it is. Everything from the breathtaking views from the patio doors to having your breakfast brought
to your room at a time of your choice adds to the wonderful experience of feeling totally spoilt by the owners who are very welcoming. We stayed in the Garden Room very comfortable beds extremely clean and has everything you could possibly need!

Following a soggy, weary 90 miles on a push-bike Glen & Nev did everything possible to help us recover!! Instantly above arrival our soggy clothes were taken from us for drying and previously organised taxis had been all re-arranged due to out late arrival!

The setting and views were stunning and breakfast hit the spot!! We will certainly be using this Smithfield again for our next stop over!! (if we are mad enough to do it again!)

The Meadow Suite is a solid, purpose built ensuite room attached to the farm house, with views out over the meadow and the hills above Builth Wells.

It ensures complete privacy, enter the room through the french doors, spotlessly clean, charming decor of pale blue and white, luxurious bed linen and the most comfortable bed.

Choose your breakfast the day before and it will be delivered to your door, in a beautifully prepared basket, all piping hot (except the fresh juice of course!) for you to enjoy in the privacy of your own room, whilst enjoying views over the meadow.

Pop your fresh bread into the electric toaster and enjoy fresh toast, make you own tea or coffee from a varied choice, fresh milk is in the fridge.

The owners, Glen & Nev really have gone the extra mile, in that they have thought of everything to enhance their guests stay, fresh flowers, chocolates, soft fluffy pale blue luxury towels, plenty of lighting, plenty of heating, plenty of electric sockets, free Wi Fi in your room, delious breakfasts.

Not forgetting your own private patio, where you can sit and enjoy a breakfast cuppa or evening glass of wine or just sit and relax.

The Elan Valley reservoirs are close by and I highly recommend a visit.

Builth Wells is an interesting place to wander around, we were amazed at the Antiques 'shop' that used to be a church, well worth a look! and a walk by the River Wye along the tree lined path is just beautiful.

Peter and myself really enjoyed our 3 night stay in the Meadow suite and shall undoubtedly return one day,

Thank you Glen and Nev for making our break special!

(Now I am going to add some photos!)

We stayed at the Smithfield B&B just a few miles from Builth Wells for three nights, and would have liked to stay longer.
It is run as a family business by Nev & Glenys, they had one room originally called the Garden room, then they decided to build another room on th back of their wonderful farmhouse, and called it Meadow view.
We stayed in the Meadow view room, and as the name implies when you look out of the French doors you see a fantastic view of fields. both rooms are on the ground floor, and are completely self contained, and both have a patio for you to engulfed in sunbathing if the weather is nice, we sat out there several times listening to the birds singing. As previously stated the room has it's own entrance via the French doors, inside you are in for a treat. Everything is new, and I will try to list everying Nev & Glen has put in the room to make you want to come back again. Heaters, 2 lounge chairs, a table and chairs, 2 very comfortable beds with luscious bedding, loads of lighting, storage, a well appointed toilet and shower, there's too much to list, other than to say "GO THERE YOURSELF" and be amazed at the comfort and views across the fields. Your breakfast is brought to you in a basket, and as well as tasting fantastic, they do not skimp on quantity. There are chocolates, and fruit in the room for you to eat as well.
For those of you that cannot leave your laptop, etc at home there is a router in the room to ensure you get WIFI at any time.
We have been to many B&Bs in this country and abroad, and would thoroughly recommend the Smithfield B&B Meadow room as the best, the Garden room is similar also. All I ask is, make sure that when we want to return it's not booked, lol.
There is plenty to do and see around Mid Wales, especially the Dams when they are in full flow at the Élan Valley.

Thank you Nev & Glenys for a wonderful stay Peter & Chris.
