Avoid like foot and mouth the place is horrable and riddled with drunk gossiping farmers ( wyn the butcher) he put me off to start off with and then i come across a old ladie having a good swear session with another farmer .
The hotel looks ok but if you look closer you can see the the cracks throughout with rooms staff and owners!
Its a nice town but i do feel this place is a joke and needs a major overhaul and kick a few people out if they want to make it a better place .

Family run hotel. Rooms are large and recently updated....but a few things look like they were done in a hurry...not a great finish. The hotel itself has a bar and restaurant. The food is good value and very tasty. The breakfast was cooked to order and plentiful.

Would stay again if stopping in Builth Wales on way down to Cardiff.

A very warm and friendly hotel, the bedroom was spacious, clean and comfortable. The communal areas are in need of a refurbishment as they are rather tired. Seems a family run place that is in need of a bit of expertise, the hotel inspector could do wonders here! Food was not special, very small, very plain menu which was distinctly average, smallest T-bone steak I had ever seen! The staff were all lovely but I think either out of their depth or fed up with it all. The lady that served breakfast was a bit scary the way she came into the restaurant and shouted for our requirements - tip, put a little card on the table to state what the full breakfast consists of and to choose from the ingredients, that would help all the customers.

We stayed two nights at the Lion Hotel on 30 and 31 December 2011 and urge you to ignore the previous bad reviews of the place. It is now under new management and we found it a good place to stay. The staff were friendly, the room was large and newly refurbished and the breakfast was substantial. The rates were also very good. The bar menu in the evening was fine, but you might get slightly better value if you go elsewhere in town (there's a good indian close by for instance). We travelled with two kids (age 3 and 7) who were well accommodated. There's a bar, large dining area and also a lounge for guests. Give it a try.

My new husband and I stayed for two nights at the Lion hotel the day after our wedding and it was perfect for a nice, quiet mini-break which was just what we needed after the hectic-ness of the previous month!
My husband had booked it as a surprise for me through late rooms and the suite that we had was really nice number 17. The bed was comfy, if a tad soft for my liking, but having been exhausted by the weekend's events it was just lovely to sink into and fall asleep! Bathroom was clean and modern with a fantastic power shower, lots of towels and we also had a little "living room" area which made it a lovely size.
The owners were great, the locals very friendly and despite being the only guests staying (it was the Sunday-Tuesday before Christmas) they gave us fantastic room service and also lovely generous breakfasts with lots of choice. I could have stayed for another two nights to be able to totally relax; however the busy time of Christmas was nearly upon us so we had to return home sadly. Would definitely recommend!

Room Tip: Opt for a suite if you can as you have much more room.
