“A gem in a lovely location”

This is a classic case of not letting first impression cloud your judgement. The signage and the long private drive up to the hotel leaves much to be desired but once in reception this concern is quickly dispelled. You are immediately embraced by its warm homely charm. We were on a dinner B&B deal on both days with the added bonus of a packed lunch and bottle of wine with dinner in a basic good room No. 5. I was so glad we did not upgrade as the view from the picture window of the Beacons was to die for. Every member of staff were exemplary, friendly and could not do enough for us. Whilst the menu was somewhat limited the quality of the food was top class and this was repeated at breakfast and our packed lunches. All in all our stay was a wonderful experience and we have already booked a similar deal at a second "Taste Inn Wales" hotel further along the A40.

Room Tip: The rooms on the front of the hotel have lovely views of the Brecon Beacons and this can be achieved...

To be honest, as we entered the hotel and room we were trying to suss the place out, and I wasn't sure. The Manor and it's gardens are a little tired and need a bit of maintenance and tidying up, however as our stay progressed the excellent features of the hotel shone though. All the staff were helpful and on many occasions went out of their way to help and offer advise. Our dog was very welcome. The views were stunning. Location perfect to explore the National Park. Breakfast was lovely (esp. the Welsh rarebit)! The pool, jacuzzi and sauna relaxing and well maintained. During our short stay we became very fond and relaxed here. We would definitely stay again. Diolch yn fawr!

We loved the warm, friendly atmosphere. It was like staying as friends in a lovely country home.
We had a big room with fabulous views. Nothing pretentious, instead good old fashioned values of hospitality, great food, comfort and friendly service. Decent portions instead of small artistic heaps in the middle of a large plate.
We look forward to returning soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

Quiet hotel set up on the hillside less than a mile from Crickhowell centre. Not a good walk though, the A40 is very busy and vehicles are extremely close at times.
Hotel is comfortable with good amenities (gym, pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi), although these are not exclusively for guests (there is a local gym membership).
Hotel is a bit tired looking and the room we were in was fairly basic (although we had paid for one of the Better rooms), although the views made up for it. Slightly more than I would expect to pay for a hotel of this quality (for this reason I can't quite make it 4 stars).
Room was booked as a double and we were given keys to a twin which was not made up yet. On pointing this out they did offer us a choice of 3 other double rooms though which were clean. Staff were otherwise very pleasant and helpful.
Breakfast was a bit limited unless you went for the cooked breakfast (to order). Little choice of continental (fruit/breads/meats etc). Ate in the restaurant for dinner once and to food was good enough.
All in all, a pleasant 3 night break.

The hotel has an amazing view from the front but not from the back. We took our dog and were assigned to a 'dog' room at the far end of a long corridor. It was bit of a heart sink moment seeing it for the first time - bare wooden floors, scruffily covered fold up bed along one side and looking out through dingy net curtains onto no view to speak of at all. More kennel-like than luxury! The bathroom had a loo perched on a small platform in a corner, which was also not male-guest friendly! However, the four star rating is for the view from the patio, the location (the Black Mountains are truly magnificent) and well cooked food. Do not expect fine dining, the hotel calls its restaurant a 'bistro' (we had fish and chips the first night) but the breakfasts are very good.

This hotel is comfortable and has a superb setting, with wide views across the valley. Its staff are efficient, friendly and helpful. It has an interesting breakfast menu and generally high standard of cooking. It has plenty of comfortable seating areas. I liked the hotel cat who made the lounge more homely.

Parking is close to the hotel and easy. I shall use this hotel again when I have business in the area.

An absolutely fault free break in an excellent hotel. Superb position, excellent staff, food, room, leisure facilities, we could not fault the place, amazingly friendly without being overbearing.
Breakfast we felt was legendary!
We would have no reservations about returning to this property.
Anyone who posts a poor review of this hotel must be incredibly sad!!

Room Tip: We had a family room, room 9, and had a reasonable view but the front facing rooms would have an exc...
