This is the new Explora on Easter Island which we went to around six weeks after it opened. All in all, it was a glorious place to stay though not without a couple of teething problems.

The building is a few miles away from the only town on the island and all the rooms and common areas have a spectacular view over the ocean. It is fashioned from stone, glass and wood and looks beautiful though I did feel that the architect should have stuck a few solar panels on the roof. As you'd expect, the rooms, food and wine are all excellent.

The hotel still seemed to be getting to grips with having to deal with more people than they're used to. Hence service in the bar and restaurant was often slow. Worse was the fact that the guides tended to just allocate you to the next day's explorations without discussing them with you or offering you a choice. It wasn't a problem when we asked for an alternative though. The explorations themselves are skillfully designed and run and the guides are uniformly excellent. Overall, well up to Explora standards.

Just finished my stay in Easter Island. Short stay due to flight availability, but a moving overall experience. The culture of the island and the mystic of its people make it worthwhile going to the middle of nowhere. Stayed at this new property in Easter Island (opened a few weeks ago) on my way from Tahiti. I ended up staying at this new hotel based on my agent "best in town" sales pitch. Well, I must say that this is not really at hotel, but a fascinating travel/exploration concept that allows you to discover every corner of this isolated small piece of land. The hotel itself is an architectural gem, with magnificent angles, find woods and the shape of a bird. Cool décor, very comfortable grounds and bizarrely enchanting bedrooms. Views from my room were paradisiacal over looking an inactive volcano. High-end All-Inclusive. Food and wine were outstanding, outdoors picnic unexpectedly sophisticated. Staff friendly, accommodating and unassuming. I wish I could have stayed longer.
