Judging by the number of cameras in evidence on the terrace of the Tataku Vave, the chances of seeing eye watering sunsets from this small waterfront restaurant are well known. We went here for our final evening meal on Easter Island at the recommendation of our hotel manager. The restaurant is down a dirt road a short distance from the island airport. Neither was a problem: the restaurant sent a taxi to pick us up and sent us back to base in one, too; and there's only one scheduled plane in and out of the airport each day.
The menu was predominantly fishy. A shrimp starter came in a butter and mushroom sauce which demanded bread to soak up the final drops. We could have picked lobster or any number of raw fish concoctions for starters or mains. I found it impossible to resist the offer of Mongolian beef, however. Tender and tasty it came with pureed potato which could teach some British restaurants a thing or two. Local beers and wines were on offer. I went for the former and my wife liked a rich Cab Sauv.
Self service coffee and tea were available at the end of the meal without further charge. Portions were large and artisticly presented.
The terrace is exposed so sun oil or warmer clothing might be an idea depending on the conditions.
And to round it off the natural floor show: the sun which had been performing an unpredictable light show through the clouds broke free of them at the horizon and gave us a blazing glorious farewell to Hanga Roa.

Great view to enjoy, just bring a jacket just in case because it gets cold in the evenings. Don't miss the local tasty slipper lobsters RapuRapu. The mouthwatering ceviche is served in a beautiful seashell.

We had been met at the airport by a lady solicitating for this restaurant She was handing out flyers that advertised that the would pick you up for free.I questioned if they would take us back to the hotel and was told of course.Communication was a huge issue English is not spoken and English is the only language I have, the representative that they sent to the airport had perfect English so I wrongly thought so would other staff.Do not fall for the free ride trick it is only one way you need to pay to get home, was pitch black and not being familiar with the island decided walking was not for us.We could not see the "wonderful view" others talk about as was very dark.staff did not seem overly happy to have us there.Food itself was very good I had the slipper lobster and enjoyed it very much.My husband had fish and also enjoyed his meal.
Service was slow and casual staff seemed more interested in talking to each other than seeing to the customers

We were not impressed by this retaurant. The food lacked flavor. Service was fine. We ordered 5 different meals and no on was thrilled with their meal. Ceviche was bland.

The food was delicious, enjoyed a local fish? It is a bit far from town, but worth it! This seems to be a local favorite.
