“Nice, but could be alot nicer......”
Reviewed 3 April 2010

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Iorana. After doing extensive analysis of the reviews (on Trip Advisor) of the various lodging options on Easter Island, I was a little disconcerted by the range of good-to-bad comments for each and every one of the hotels! I was at a loss as to which property I wanted to "take a chance at"! I finally chose the Iorana based on its location just outside of the city proper.....
The choice ended up being a good one in that the 'open, airy' location and the beautiful views out across the ocean where a definite "+". The common areas (lounges and restaurant) were very nice. And the staff was very friendly, and most eager to accommodate your needs and requests....
BUT - I was shocked and disappointed when I opened the door to our room, even though I sort of knew what to expect. The room was indeed very "sparsely" decorated - very plain, lacking color, the drapes were very frayed......, the bedding very blah (and the double bed [in the "superior" room we paid for} was on wheels and kept rolling away from the wall.....), there were no comfortable chairs to sit on, the T.V. was worthless ( 1 channel), the air conditioner noisy, the bathroom even more "dated" (w/ a shocking shower curtain that clashed with everything...) But there was hot water and a decent shower head!
We had dinner at the Iorana's restaurant the first night (disgusting) and lunch another day (so-so), but the breakfast buffet was very good every day......

The distance of the hotel from the main part of town was a distance that I would not have wanted to walk, and we were glad we had a car....

Downtown nothing special; found one restaurant right on the water, next to the dock that had an excellent dinner menu and we ended up eating there 3 nights....

As to Easter Island itself - the very best place to view the moia is at the volcanic crater that was considered the "nursery" - the place where the moia were craved and then transported to the perimeters of the island. Make sure you go to the interior of the crater - found by turning to the left after you pay for your ticket and then start walking straight along the first "path". You will reach a point where there is a sign that says you cannot go any further without a park ranger to guide you because of the dangerous wild horses! GO! It is the only place on the island where you have the freedom to literally walk right up to the moia and inspect the details of them at close range! For all other moia sites on the island (and there are only 3-4 where there are groups of moia that have been stood back up......) you must stand back away from the ahu (platforms) that the moai were on... And you may be somewhat disappointed that most of the statues are face down on the ground, and broken into pieces.....
As to the multiple petroglyph sites - another great disappointment. Even the very few "good" ones are greatly eroded by the weather....
Before you travel to Easter Island, read up on the history of the isalnd and the moia, then rent a car and travel to the sites yourself, so you can spend as much or as little time as you want at each site. And unless you are interested in "hiking" most of the island and/or spending time at the one beach..... 2-3 days maximum is all you need to see the statues.....

The rock pool alone is worth the stay, add to that the friendliness of the owner and staff and you will be rewarded

Easter Island is a very relaxed place & we found that everywhere we went. So while the hotel could do with a fresh coat of paint & a freshen up - it is just Island time that is stopping it! We stayed in room 2 which has great views. In fact that is the best thing about this hotel...the views are amazing & you just can't help but watch the waves the whole time. The staff were always friendly. The food is a little pricey but it is everywhere...although if you walk into town along the water, there are a few other options for food. But no great deals! Our hightlight of our stay was the rock pool at Iorana....this is a blast!! MAKE SURE YOU GO IN!

We had a lovely stay at this property. Location is good (close to airport, close enough to walk to town), scenery is excellent (check out the sunsets from the thatched-roof shelters). Rooms are very basic but that is what we expected for an isolated place.

A word of caution to help others avoid being 'burned' as we were. We take responsibility for this as my husband signed our bill as we rushed through check-out to catch our ride to the airport. He did not notice there were numerous charges for food and beverages we did not make. Every time we had a soft drink or meal, we had to sign our bill and give our room number. Someone had given our room number when they ordered wine and meals. Again, we know we should have stopped and taken the time to check the bill line by line. We e-mailed the hotel immediately upon our return, and asked them to check the signatures & room number on the charges in question, and compare them with the charges we did make. We never heard back from them. For this reason we could not recommend this hotel. We hate to give a poor review to a property based on the behavior of dishonest guests or a mistake in billing the correct room; at the same time, not receiving any response gives us the idea that the hotel management is not concerned about this practice.

I knew before arriving that the accommodations on Easter Island were mediocre but that did not prepare me for my experience here. This hotel is unacceptably poor. We had no hot water whatsoever in the shower. That might have been bearable if the water was at least lukewarm but instead it was absolutely ice cold. To compound that problem, the shower head was broken off so the water sprayed uncontrollably all over the bathroom. Once it was turned on there was no place to hide from the freezing cold spray. By the way, I found out the hot water was broken in the entire wing of the hotel where we were staying, not just our room. There were only three hangars in the closet and each was a wire hangar which was so bent out of shape that it was impossible to hang a pair of pants on it. When I went to the front desk and complained the person at the desk asked me if I wanted some more bent hangars. Very funny. Also the hairdryer in the bathroom was dead. They do have a good system to keep complaints at a minimum - the phone in the room was completely dead as well. Not only is this place terrible, I saw no signs that they even care in the slightest. You are out of your mind if you choose to stay here.

Really close to the airport and a walk into the centre. The views from the restaurant are SPECTACULAR. The bar is small and 'rustic' and the restaurant comfortable. The service is helpful and despite our limited spanish skills the staff really tried to help. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful, they arranged all our car hire and helped us with travel tips.
Rooms are comfortable, clean and have great views. What it lacked in facilities was more than made up for my friendliness and charm.

The food was very reasonable. The rooms were small, adequate, clean, cool, and comfortable. The pool was nice. There was a pool down the hill built into the rock cliffs that was really cool. The staff was helpful and friendly. When our alarm clock died on us the staff came and woke us up, and made the tour guide wait for us. It was a bit of a hike to town, but the people on Rapa Nui will give you a ride if you ask them. Of all the hotels I looked at on Easter Island, this is the closest thing to a "resort" they have.
