“save the best for last”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2009

I travelled in SA for 8weeks. Everything was planned and arranged, at least at 4 stars sevice. The Easter Islands was the last destination. For some reason, I thought it would be a safe and peaceful place. So I did not arraged anything in advance except making reservation at Lucia's place.
No one picked me up at the airport, but a hotel owner gave me a ride. I am grateful. It is impossible to find such kindness in NYC, London.etc.

Lucia was not home but I met Mahina, which is such a wonderful person. The best part started from there......I am honored to have her taking me around the island and to hear stories about this fascinating place first hand information.........
....the room was not at my expectation. However, Mahina, Lucia and her family made me feel at home.

Running in the dark under starry sky was awesome. The rooster did great job as a wake up call. Lucia's dog was friendly. Lucia's husband catched the fishes for our dinner. What else should I expect..

I also went with Lucia to buy bread for breakfast and to send her cute son to school.
Going to Sunday church was cheerful and pleasant. Having lunch at a house situated right behind the famous 13 Ahu on Mother's Day was great. I enjoyed the well prepared foods while listening to beautiful Rapa Nui's conversations......although I did not understand. The marinated tuna and grilled chicken was so delicious.

Lucia also gave me an Ahu chocolate and a hand printed table cloth.

One thing that I missed and will make it some day.....is riding a horse to the airport, with Mahina.

I am grateful to have a chance to visit such place and to get to know them all.

Our stay at Mahina Taka Taka:
We ordered our room by telephone good time in advance after seeing many positive comments of this place and wrote a letter in addition.
When we came no one picked us up from the airport and when we finally made it to the place it was obvious that our visit was forgotten. No room was ready for guests.
In the evening we could move in but could only stand it two nights. It was not possible for us to stay longer. We have no big expectations but the room was extremely smelly, dirty and full of insects and obviously had already seen his best days.
The fact that Lucia, who is running the place, is a very nice person does not make it better. We unfortunately cannot recommend this place.

I stayed at Mahina TakaTaka for 5 days, enjoying every minute of it. Lucia is the most gracious of hostesses. The room were spartan, yes, but they have their own private shower and facilities (albeit you must ask for the hot water to be turned on at times). If you want to know the culture and history of this island, Lucia can tell you stories and stories and stories. Breakfast is a wonderful time to sit with Lucia who can also help plan your day on the island. She's not a travel guide, but she knows everything (and probably everyone) about the island. I was there during an island celebration and the school children had a wonderful parade, dressed in dazzling colorful costumes. Getting into "town" is a matter of walking (perhaps 20 min. at a slow pace in order to enjoy the views along the way), or a $2.00 taxi ride. Some of the moai statues are within a very short walking distance. If you're an independent type traveler looking for a true personal experience, this is a place for you to investigate.

We stayed with Lucia and friends for 6 fantastic days.

The property has 4 rooms each with a private toilet/bathroom. The rooms are sparse but adequate with comfortable clean beds. Breakfast is served in the dining room. We were lucky enough to there durung avacado, guava season so great breakfasts to start the day. Hose would bake fresh bread each day in a small wood fire. Superb

Friends and family were allways dropping by which meant that we were allways seeing poeple around town and getting an Ola and wave. It also helped when dealing with the locals as eveyone seems to know Lucia.

We have found that it's the people that make the trip great and this was so true this time around.

We can't recommend Mahina Taka-Taka Georgia Residencial highly enough if you like informal friendly local lodgings and like to get a feel for the real deal on your destination.

You can also call the Easter Island tourist office for info.

Have fun

The four rooms that are for rent are sparce but the beds are clean and comfortable. En suite bathrooms are adequate for travellers but not luxurious. Everything that may be lacking is made up for by the welcome and the service that Lucia gives, not just at breakfast time. English visitors are particularly welcome. The many animals around the property are also friendly. The dogs will come for walks with you, the chickens may eat your crumbs, dropped from the table outside your room. The gardens are full of exotic trees and the fresh fruit from them is delicious. There are always family and friends dropping by and an added bonus is that, Savrina, Lucia's neice, works in the tourist office in town.
