Trip Advisor's top picks for Merida (Casa Sol, Belensate) were booked, so we took the advice of Lonely Planet and chose Tisure. A "presidential suite" was reasonably priced, so we indulged. We were pleased with the result.
We arrived late and hungry from Caracas; restaurants were closed. One of the staff went out and found us some decent food at midnight. This quality of service was maintained throughout our visit. Rooms were cleaned early and particularly well.
Speaking of rooms, we got an enormous one on the top (third) floor, with large bathroom and Jacuzzi. Spotless, well furnished, high ceilings, and large flat screen tv. A good breakfast is included, served in a nice room, again with pleasant staff. The Wifi works most of the time.
The central location, equidistant from the lively Plaza Bolivar and the more tranquil Plaza Milla is excellent. There are several good restaurants within walking distance that are open until 10 or 11pm.
If there is one factor that detracts, it is street noise, but you get used to it. Perhaps there are quieter rooms than ours.
