“Best Vacation”
Reviewed 21 August 2013

This review was mistakenly posted in Sunsol Isla Caribe Playa de agua . Sorry for the mixup. My wife and our three children had a wonderful time at this resort. We stayed from 11th August 2013 to 15th August 2013. The staff was friendly and helpful. The pool was fantastic. The temperature of the water was just right for swimming and soaking up the sun while in the water. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Every day the rooms were cleaned and linen changed. I made an error an My children enjoyed the theatre shows which highlighted the performers talent. There was a variety of dishes for everyone's liking. Fruits galore!

We felt safe because there was a presence of security on the compound. Security guards were vigilant but not intimidating. Words cannot describe the comfort and relaxation we encountered over the five day stay. I recommend this hotel as a prime tourist destination. Congratulations to the managers and staff of this establishment. Your brand is second to none. Will be back

Christopher, Trinidad and Tobago.

Just got back from a whole week at the Isle Caribe Beach Hotel, on Margarita Island, Venezuela. We had 5 pools, 2 beaches, first class service, 5 star food, and the entertainment was amazing and professional and performed nightly on the outdoor stage overlooking the ocean.
The place was spotless, lots of staff, had a room with a hammock outside (poolside), air-conditioning, big screen tv with channels in Spanish, English, and German. Bar opens 11 am and closes 11 pm. All-inclusive. Children's playground area, pool tables, table tennis, dining al fresco, different foods every meal and different themes (e.g. Mediterranean, Spanish, Italian) every day. And the local money - Bolivars - is very cheap. Jessica is the guest relations manager and my newly adopted daughter and Mr. Freddie is the manager. We both meditate and do yoga and tai chi on the beach watching the sunrise around 6 am.
It rained a whole 20 minutes - wanted to swim in the rain, but it stopped. Lots of mountains and the one across from the hotel is called Peace Mountain. Pictures on FB next week. Absolute, full, unqualified recommendation. Great place for families, honeymooners, conventions, singles, and you.

Room Tip: speak to Jessica, the guest relations manager - she is amazing and so sweet. Be patient - things mo...

A group of 15 people travelled as a family vacation. The beginning of the vacation was quite rocky since our flight had been delayed and we arrived at the hotel 3 in the morning. We were given small food boxes with a sandwich and fruits.
We settled in our rooms and were glad to get some rest. Some of our group members were placed in a separate building but we didnt mind at all. We were just satisfied that we were accomodated in the renovated section of the hotel since we had booked in advance and expected to be placed in the new section of the hotel.
The buffet was good and I preferably ejoyed the snack bar where I ate most of the stay. They had hotdogs, burgers, fries and other finger food items. We did not eat at any of the specialty restaurants since they were under renovations.
The nightly shows were great and we took part in both sections.
A major issue was the attitude of some of the workers, they can be quite careless while others such as the waitresses and maids are so hardworking. One day our toilet had overflowed without even using it, which was really disgusting. The stench and the experience was intolerable, we contacted the front desk and waited. They finally sent maintainance to resolve the issue and we agreed to stay in that room because they really did a good job in cleaning up and handling the situation. For the rest of the stay, the washroom worked well.
During our stay, we did the tour downtown where we did shopping on the streets. Beware there are several con artists that pose as currency exchangers offerring you a large rate in fact they conduct black magic. I suggest that you change your money in the hotel, your tour rep or in sae shops. It can become quite uncomfortable and irritating because they people try to hassle and haggle you on the streets. I also suggest walking with single bills and not much cash. We then visited the centro commercial mall, Sambil which was HUGE and really fascinating. The Diverland theme park was also a good experience.
The beach is not the best, quite rocky and dirty but it didnt affect me. I made use of the swimming pools and the waterpark close by.
What i enjoyed the most was the location of the resort, it was close to the waterpark, we actually walked instead of paying the extra bucks to be transported by car. Trust me use your brains and you can save alot of dollars. Parque el Agua was exilarating, it was $20 Bolivars per person i believe but its worth it. I suggest visiting early in the morning so you can enjoy the entire day.
Overall the hotel is a good selection. The atmosphere and vibes of the people are great. Truly a party resort, lots of singing and dancing. The entetainment at nights were never-ending. There were a few hiccups but i would return. We visited during the summer and I'm planning on returning during the Christmas season.

Room Tip: Please ensure to request the remodelled section. They have newer rooms and ammenities. Also the olde...

I must say this was the best vacation I had in 2012. The variety of food was excellent as well as the snacks and drinks. The hotel rooms were really nice and comfortable. The entertainment by the poolside and the theater was great. For an affordable and enjoyable trip stay at this hotel

There is never anything fancy with a 3.5 star or less, we knew this going down and had a great time. Our flight had about 50 Canadians staying at this resort which is always good to travel with fellow citizens. This is a very poor country so don't expect above and beyond as there is no motivation for the locals unless you tip.

Rooms are clean, we had the king size bed over looking the pool and ocean which I would recommend if you are a couple traveling or they will put you in the kid section (old part) of the resort with 2 double beds.

Food wise, lots of eggs and ham at breakfast - no bacon.
Lunch and dinner is basically the same, chicken, rice, salads.
They do try to have a theme nightly which maybe italian, mexican or asian etc.

We ran into a 1 1/2 delay leaving the airport as their security did not xray our luggage, they physically check everything about 3 times and physically check you just before boarding the plane which was a pain but really the only complaint I had.

If you can, brush up on some basic spanish.

Hotel was clean. Food always the same never fresh. We had a brochure that said we had 2 meals in the restaurant however the hotel would not recognize it and would only allow one meal. Weekends were really busy and people were super loud. Internet was in the main lobby only and it rarely worked. No one spoke English which could be frustrating at times. Our air conditioner was set on "freeze" for the week.

My husband and I are from Montreal and stayed in the Tropical section of the Sunsol Isla Caribe resort, for 1 week. Before leaving and before booking I was stalking the Margarita Island forums and the resort reviews, and became so paranoid about money, the parallel rate, being robbed or kidnapped, bad food, bad rooms, and not speaking Spanish. We just got back (stayed Jan 29-Feb 5) and we had a great time. I'm glad we booked the trip - it was so cheap and really beautiful. I’ve never written a review but felt compelled to based on everyone’s negative reviews. Some comments:

First - you get what you pay for. If you're picky, stay at a 5 star resort. If you're considering this resort, then you need to be okay with the fact that it's not a 5 star resort. You get what you pay for.

Room: At first we were put in a room with a double bed and two single beds. The AC was leaking. We went to the guest services desk in the reception and asked to change rooms to one with a king sized bed. They had no problem showing us a new room, and once we agreed it was better they quickly sent someone to help with moving our luggage. No problemo. The room was clean, had a safe, had a balcony, and we left a note for the cleaning staff to bring a bottle of water (botella de agua, por favor...our first room had one/second didn't). We left a tip of 20 Bolivars and every day we had a large bottle of water in our room. The rooms have mini fridges but they’re not stocked. The towel service is the same as every other hotel – you want new towels you put your old ones on the floor. The day we requested for our room to not be cleaned (no moleste!), the cleaning lady knocked on our door to give us new towels!

Sections: There are three in the hotel. Tropical, Real, and Cascade. Each have their own pool, but only the Tropical and Real sections have food. We were on the 1st floor (not ground level) in the Tropical, near the stage (121). It was pretty loud each night with the nightly entertainment, but it didn’t bother us because we were either watching the entertainment, or sipping on Pina Coladas. There were a few nights where the bar/resto across from the stage in the Tropical section stayed open until 1am, instead of the disco (which was closed), so it’s something to consider if you’re someone who goes to sleep early. The nights that we went to bed early we were able to sleep, despite the music. Just because you’re staying in one section doesn’t mean that you can’t go to the other… it’s literally a 2 minute walk and doesn't feel like you're 'in a section'. Cascades is the quietest section of the resort, followed by the Real section then Tropical.

Internet: It’s only available in the lobby, or in the internet café. We never used the internet café, and only connected once in the lobby. Do you really needs internet in your room? You’re on vacation.

Food: I’d say what brings the ratings down on this hotel would be the food but it's not that bad. The a la carte was good, but you can only book that a few times. The buffet wasn’t the greatest, but compared to other resorts I’ve stayed at its similar. You’re not going to get Canadian or American food in South America! If that’s what you’re going to Venezuela for you need to get your priorities straight. We were always able to find something to eat. They usually have someone making eggs/omelets in the morning, or grilling/sautéing something for lunch or supper, along with the rest of the buffet food. It was decent and we weren't hungry. The snack bar always had hamburgers and hotdogs throughout the day. The resto in the Real section is no better/different than the resto in the Tropical section. They serve similar food. Many nights we walked through both before deciding which to eat in. We requested a take-out container to bring some fresh fruit back to our room, and they had no problem with that.

Language: Isla Caribe caters to mainland Venezuelans. I’d say 75% of the people staying there, if not more, were Spanish speaking. There’s really no reason for the people working there to speak much English. So many reviews complain of the staff not speaking English, but to be honest, it was one of the highlights of the trip, for us. Cervesa por favor, Pina Colada por favor, Aqua por favor…Gracias. We learnt so many new words, by pointing to something and asking ‘que es eso’ (what is that) or ‘como se dice en Inglis’ (how do you say that in English). You try – they try. You smile and laugh, they smile and laugh. My suggestion – learn a few key words before you go… water, bathroom, chicken, what time, where, please, towel, thank you, etc. Tje resort had one Guest Services woman working there who spoke quite a bit of English, and one waiter and one bartender spoke good English. You need to keep an open mind – don’t go to Venezuela if you’re going to get bitter that they can’t speak English. You’re considering travelling to South America!

I left a lot of comments/tips in the Margarita Forum, on money, the exchange rate, the beach, the bus to playa el agua beach, the weather, security, excursions, bugs, etc. You can read it here: http://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g316061-i2025-k6119685-Just_got_back_from_SunSol_Isla_Caribe_lots_of_tips-Margarita_Island_Coastal_Islands_Insular.html
