“Botswana-wonderful surprise”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

From the pick up at the airport by wilderness air/ safari, we felt we were in for a treat. from the small engine planes which I had never travelled in to seeing the delta for the first time. Amazing. The wonderful teas laid out to good food and conversation. Will not forget the dinner at the boma and seegin the hippos nearby who had eluded us during the day.
The safaris out into the delta were great and different although we did not see too many different animals which was okay for us coming from Kenya. The room was fit for a queen. quiet exciting to sleep with the open skis. The staff were very attentive to our needs. I could sense the friendliness and comradeship between the management and staff. William thanks for a great experience. I have never experienced a manager taking the time to show me the ins and out of running the camp. The conservation efforts being done are exemplary and others should follow suit. My only down(written with a light touch) was being visited by ants just before I slept and this was quickly dealt with and explained to me as to the cause of them coming up into the room. I would recommend to my friends and would love to come back. Terry

My family and I just returned from spending 3 perfect days at Jao Camp, an experience that will be very hard to top. From the facilities to the staff to the food to safari, everything was perfect. Our Guide Antonio had eyes like a hawk and a 6th sense in where to find the most elusive of animals, his patience never ending, and his knowledge fit for wikipedia. Charl was the consummate host, no detail was too small. The staff friendly and attentive, overall we felt like we were leaving our family. We can't wait to return!

Jao Camp is a very special place. Every detail has been so thoughtfully planned. The setting is spectacular in the Okavango Delta and the rooms are luxurious and comfortable. I just loved it!
Our group's guide,Cruise was so fun and knowledgable and we completely trusted him as he helped us have close views of animals. One thing we noticed was that there are not large numbers of animals but the experiences we had with the ones we saw were so interesting with great photo ops and we were not surrounded by other vehicles like some safaris we had experienced other places. I particularly love elephants and we saw many of them every day. The staff were warm and friendly and the meals were delicious too! I would highly recommend this camp for a positive and magical experience!!

That I'm still thinking and writing about Jao Camp months after my brief visit is testament to striking beauty of the camp and the welcoming spirit of the staff. I had a briefly flight delay and was wisked to Jao Camp on short notice to wait out the one hour. To my surprise the GM William spent that hour touring Jao camp with me. My only regret is that I was there for only an hour. Jao camp is on the top of my list of camps to return to with family or on honeymoon, its definitely a camp you can spend more than a few days at. There everything you would expect from a luxury camp and then some, like the gym and the huge spa. Just a gorgeous camp in every way.

When we arrived at Jao Airstrip we were greeted already by the Manager William and once in the camp his wife Angie was there together with just about all the staff members. We had a wonderful stay there and our guide Bee knew everything about animals, birds, trees and stars.
The food and wine was excellent and we felt like in paradise. The rooms were enormous and very well equipped.

Jao Camp was our first camp with Wilderness and we were treated very well.

The genuine welcome not only on the first day but on arrival from every drive or boat was amazing. We were welcomed by both management and all the general staff.

A special thanks to William and Angie who even showed us the bats emerge from the bat cave when the sun went down - amazing!

Everyone is friendly here and one can see that everyone gets on well.

Our ranger Johnny was fantastic with his knowledge of animals and especially birds and just happened to get us to sightings of crocs, elephants and lions before they moved on. On one of our boat trips, we were lucky to see a mummy elephant pulling her baby through the water channels - right in front of us.

Each meal was tasty and very well presented and we had a member of the management team and at least one ranger with every meal in the evening.

We were also lucky enough to meet some very nice fellow travellers and shared stories from other camps also.

The room is very nice and comfortable. Large nets to protect at night and a great view out onto the flood plains.

One afternoon we were very lucky to see and snap a Sitatunga (rarely spotted antelope).

There aren't many animals to see but bird life is educating. The location and the variety of activities is excellent. One evening we had a Mokoro boat ride and another morning we went to Hunda Island.

Activities are fairly long so one gets a good exposure to the wild.

Do go ahead and book this Camp, you wont regret.

Other camps like Kings Pool can learn a thing or two from Jao Camp managers.

When one pays for a particular range of camps, one should feel their money well spent. We certainly did at Jao Camp.

The staff did everything to ensure we had a wonderful stay in this fabulous camp. We experienced both land and water based safari with very knowledgable guides. The lodge is constructed in beautiful highly polished wood and sits on stilts to ensure wonderful vistas. The room we had was Balinese style tented accommodation with a thatched roof. It was open plan design, including the wash basins and large free standing tub, which might not suit all but we loved it. There was a shower inside and out. The bed was king size and surrounded by mosquito netting which was drawn for us each evening. There was a beautiful deck outside with a double Sala, where you can have a siesta in the afternoon or even arrange to sleep under the stars! I also loved swinging in the hammock provided. You may even be lucky enough like us to see an elephant just a few inches from the deck, feeding from a tree. The spa was a gorgeous treat at the end of a busy morning game watching. The water based activities added great variety to our experience with fishing on small motor boats and trips on mokoros which are flat based canoes from which you are poled by a guide through papyrus and day and night water lilies. They are however quite narrow and hard so again might not suit all. We were amazed to see such large numbers of different species of birds alongside the game sightings (not so large in numbers but good) and included leopard.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 9 at the end of a long board walk and it was worth the walk! Private spacious, ver...
