This camp was a great contrast to Eagle Island Camp and all game drives were conducted by jeep. From the moment of our welcome to our departure, the attitude and friendliness of the staff was proof of the culture instilled by Debbie the camp manager. She has a great team and treats staff and clients as part of her family. Service was above expectations in all areas.

Wi-fi is also a welcome addition and is available in all rooms. A nice swimming pool is great to cool off after game drives.

Ness was our very experienced guide, ably assisted by other guides via radio. As a result we enjoyed two close encounters with leopards. Since speaking to many people on tour, this was a rare privilege. We also saw lionesses on our 3 night stay. Nothing stops sundown drinks, demonstrated by the photo of Ness who managed to recover our drinks from the submerged jeep.

We understand there are plans to move the spa to Eagle Island Lodge, one of the other Orient Express lodges. This would be disappointing for guests as we enjoyed our massage after the long drives and believe that people who frequent luxury lodges have an expectation a spa is part of the experience.

We stayed at all 3 Orient Express Camps. They were all amazing. Khwai had so many animals for us to see. Hundreds of elephants, hippos, leopards, lions, birds, badger, monkeys, warthogs and more. They welcomed us with singing and fresh fruit drinks. The "tents" were amazing and beautiful.I can not say enough good about this place! The food was awesome. Our guide was amazing, taught us so much.

Had to let everyone know this Lodge is a Diamond in the Ruff, we came upon it by accident, as driving in the middle of nowhere, along the Moremi Game Reserve and encounter one of the most beautiful cats in the World (Leopard) after waiting about 15 minutes for the Leopard to move off the road as he checked us out...... the next turn was PARADISE after camping for 4 nights we (I) was so ready for a hot shower and a nice fluffy bed...... From the Reception to the meals to the drinks the groups hospitality went far beyond my expectations.... Thank you again for another memory on my "Out of Africa" dream vacation over the holidays........ Ciao

Room Tip: All rooms were wonderful

This was part of a trip which included the three Orient Express lodges in the order of Khwai River Lodge, Eagle Island Lodge and then Savute Elephant Lodge, staying three nights in each.

As the first lodge - this was just wow and wow again. Room was good, note no bath but decent shower. All rooms in the 3 lodges were similar. Johnson our guide was fab, and all the staff were really friendly and helpful. The food better than you might expected given the location and transport requirement. The laundry really is excellent - back same day service - out in the morning back that evening.

PS as two gay men there were no difficulties at all.

This was our first of 3 Orient Express Camps. Johnson our guide was amazing, spotting leopards, lions, a herd with hundreds of cape buffalo, and, or course, lots of elephants. In fact, our trip started with arrival in the lounge and a mother elephant with her baby, and even younger baby right outside grazing by the River. Like all the Orient Express lodges, it is located in quintessential Africa a setting, with lovely, large, air-conditioned tents for accommodations. The food was also terrific, following the typical safari format of hot muffins/coffee at day break, brunch and sit down dinner with full service. The one drawback to the Orient-Express lodges is that they currently do now have Rhinos near their properties for a complete Big 5 experience. We easily made up for that with a Rhino Walk in Zambia, and would not have missed the Orient Express experience.

Room Tip: Surprisingly, our tent was almost at the end, and seemed sufficiently far removed from neighbors. H...

I dont think we'll ever be able to top this as our first safari experience. I cannot rate Khwai river lodge highly enough. From the beautiful surroundings, luxurious accommodation, wonderful, happy staff and knowledgeable guides - it doesnt get much better than this.
The safari lodge is situated on the banks of the river and everyday there is some sort of wildlife basking, eating, or drinking in the river. I came here to celebrate my mum's special birthday with my brother and on the day of her birthday we saw a leopard in the distance whilst having breakfast and we also had a wild elephant come and have a wonder round the camp whilst having afternoon tea! Whilst we are on the subject of food, can I just say that i've put on half a stone thanks to the wonderful meals and abundance of food at Khwai. My brother and I have decided that afternoon tea was our favourite meal of the day.
Our guide Johnson was full of knowledge, experience and wonderful stories and everyday we saw so much wildlife. The staff at Khwai are what make your stay extra special. Thank you everyone, we left very sad leaving a part of our heart with you all, with guaranteed promises to return to Botswana.

We stayed at at Khwai River Lodge in January 2012.

We stayed at all the 3 Orient express camps in Botswana.

When we arrived at the camp we were greeted by the entire staff led my the manager Jeff. He was totally in control of the resort and we knew we were in great hands. This ended up being the case whilst we stayed there and he really knew how to run a game resort.

We had booked the luxury tent with own private plunge pool. The tent set up was incredible and felt like we were just at a 5 star resort but with a view to die for. Not many people can sit on their private balcony and look at hippo's grazing nearby.

The restaurant was incredible and the food was amazing and nothing was a problem for the staff.

Our guide Moses was the best we experienced, he was passionate about what he was doing and we always felt safe. It was pretty full on at times but all under control in the hands of Moses.

I have to make mention about Tsebo who was the manager in training and he has a massive future with Orient Express. Great attention to customer needs and never let us down.

Just an unforgettable stay in an amazing location and if Africa is on your bucket list to view game, Botswana is the place to do it. Definitely look at the Orient Express options.

Room Tip: Tent with private plunge pool was great and don't worry about going in off season
