Wonderful views from our chalet, including a spectacular lightning storm one night. The two story, four bed chalets were comfortable and clean, with good cooking facilities, including a BBQ and outside dining options on the deck or in the yard. There were two bedrooms downstairs, both with single beds, although one had an ensuite with bath. There was an extra shower/toilet near the front door, and a kitchen with large living room and deck upstairs. Our only problem was a failed water heater resulting in cold showers the first night, but this was rectified within an hour of advising reception.

The restaurant was surprisingly affordable, and if we had realized this we probably wouldn't have self-catered. We didn't do any of the Game Drives, just used our own car, but two of our party did the morning guided walk, which they said was interesting, but they didn't see much in the way of game. It was too cold to try the swimming pool while we were there.

The camp is overlooking Hluhluwe National Park which is not as touristic and crowded as Kruger National Park. The Chalets of the camp are spacious and comfortable and clean. You can prepare your own food in your fully equipped kitchen if you like. The Game Drives are not worth doing - since the guides are not that good. Go around by yourself and you will see lots of animals.

We didn't have much of a choice because the camp was packed with people - so we had to book one of the big houses. At first we didn't regret that although the price was much higher than we originally wanted to spend. A wonderful place to stay: very large bedrooms, balcony, terrace with braai and a huge living room. When arriving at the place antelopes were strolling around the house. We booked a ranger walk in the morning - a great experience and a rather shocking moment when being confronted with a herd of African buffalo only 30 meters away. But the ranger handled the situation and we didn't get into any problems.
The only downpoint: the rather high price combined with the fact that there was no warm water in the bathrooms. We only stayed for one day so there was no chance of getting the boiler repaired. And until now there was no reaction to our complaints - not even an excuse.
I think it's as simple as that: the guys at Hilltop know only too well that they will always have a lot of visitors even if they don't put that much energy into the business.

My fIance and I spent 3 nights in a 2 bed rondavel with communal kitchen and bathrooms over the long September 2012 weekend (21st - 24th). The accomodation is basic but very nice and comfortable. Is was clean and luckily we stayed in number 60 which was closed to the kitchen/ablution block. I would definitely recommend the rondavels for anyone looking for an affordable true African experience. Hilltop resort is well situated at the top of a hill inside the Hluhluwe part of the reserve. The service was good but nothing exceptional and same goes for the food. The reserve is beautiful and we saw lots of animals, including a pack of wild dog, black and white rhino, lions and a massive herd of about 60 elephants (3 actually walked right next the car practically close enough to touch) Overall we had a lovely stay at this resort and would definitely recommend it to locals (we are from Durban) and international guests. Can't wait until the next time we have a chance to visit this beautiful reserve.

We stayed 1 night in the rondawels at Hilltop n August of this year. Hilltop is a fantastic camp perched up on a hill with sprawling views over Hluhluwe. The reception area is quite grand and there is well stocked shop and restaurant. We stayed in the 2 bed rondawels with sharing facilities. The standard of accommadation was high and all facilities were very clean. We made use of the kitchen and I was quite impressed at the number of ovens, sinks and stoves that are provided, all of which were spotlessly clean. The rondawel itself was well maintained and I found it very handy that there was a fridge provided. Braai facilities were also provided. The swimming pool area was great and it was the perfect place to relax at the end of a hot day. There is also a walking trail which was good for spotting small game. Out only disappointment was that the restaurant only served a buffet dinner. With my husband being vegetarian, this really wasn't an option for us. However we were able to cook up a good dinner using the camp's kitchen faciltites. Game viewing in the park was excellent and we enjoyed an early morning game drive with one of the rangers. He was very knowledgeable and we saw a range of animals. The highlight was definitely a stop at a look out point over the reserve where we got to enjoy a cup of tea while marvelling at the beautiful landscape and rising sun.

We spent a night here on our recent trip to South Africa. The camp itself is a cut above similar camps in Kruger - the reception and restaurant area in particular are very well done. The views from the restaurant and terrace area across the park are stunning, and the rondavels we stayed in were spaced quite far apart from each other and felt quite private.

The rondavels themselves were comfortable, although the ablutions block was quite a walk away. Kitchen facilities were also good, with proper ovens which made a pleasant change from Kruger! I also enjoyed the walking trail that had been set up around the edge of the park, and the swimming pool was also welcome given the unseasonal 39c temperatures!

I do feel that the rondavels were a little overpriced at R640 for two people, given that facilities are shared. I was also a little disappointed that the restaurant only serves an over-priced buffet in the evenings, as we were looking forward to dining there, but chose to self cater instead. There also seems to be less game in this section of the park, although the morning game drive we did was excellent, with a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Still well worth visiting this section of the park for the stunning views.
