“Very good value and great tour!”
Reviewed 27 October 2010

This place a lovely, the rooms upstairs are nicer although the rooms at the front do get a little bit noisy but they are the biggest. The staff are great and will help you out if you are short of ideas on what to do in and around the town.

We did the Uyuni tours with La Torre and had a great time - nothing fancy but the 4 day tour was one of the highlights of our whole trip. The jeep was very solid and didn't break down - unlike the horror stories of people we've met who did the tour from Uyuni.

Nice place.

Don´t expect great luxury, but the hotel is charming and good value for money.

We arrived in the middle of the night, which was no problem, and we were only charged 50% for this first night.

We also did the southwest circuit tour with La Torre tours, which was excellent.

Stayed one night at this nice old colonial house.
Room was small with no outside window but clean Bathroom was very small and shower was somehow falling apart.
Night was calm, slept well.
Breakfast was good both in terms of quality and quantity.
Hotel manager and owner were very friendly.
A good choice for one night in Tupiz at a fair price if you don't want to spend more dollars at the Mitru hotel or stay at the very unprofessional Valle Hermoso.

I really liked LaTorre Hotel - the breakfast was great, I liked the terrace and there were a lot of open spaces for people to hang out - UNTIL one couple got 250 Bs stolen from their private and locked room and I got 500Bs and a maglite flashlight stolen from the dorm. When we approached the owner (at different times), she accused us of lying and not wanting to pay. She told me that there has never been any theft in 6 years, eventhough the day before a couple lost 250 Bs. After I told her I was missing some things, I went up to my room and continued packing. She followed me up and started looking in the room and even searched another person's backpack without the person being there.
I made a police report but the police will not do anything until there are at least 2 incidents.
Another thing I found strange is that they advertise there is kitchen access. When i asked about it, they said I could cook but that I could not use garlic or onions.

Tupiza is a very quiet town with a bunch of hostels and hotels. We were keen to stay at Hotel Mitru due to some good reviews, but they were full when we arrived so we chose La Torre. We were given a room with one double bed and one single, a private bathroom and TV. Breakfast is included and consists of a hot drink, a fruit, yoghurt, orange juice and bread with spreads. The beds are comfortable but the problem is that the room is not serviced and this can be a little unpleasant in a place where you throw used toilet paper into a bin and not the toilet! But the staff are friendly and the hotel is good value.

We stayed at La Torre Hotel before also doing the Salar de Uyuni tour. The hotel itself was very nice and clean and in a good location. The showers were hot and although there was no heating we were warm enough. The breakfast was also really good.
The actual tour itself to the Salar de Uyuni is fantastic. The guide and cook could not do enough for us and we saw everything and felt safe the whole way.
Just a point to make though. Before the tour at the last moment they decided to change our tour group, stating that the original people in our group had gotten ill and couldn´t make it. Therefore we went from being in a group of 5 to a group of 4 and had to pay extra. On the second day of the tour we discovered that our original tour members were also on the trip. They too had been told the same story and make to pay extra for having a smaller group, although at the last moment some other people arrived so they didn´t have to pay. I would still recommend going with this tour company but do be aware of the above story.

An okay cheapish place. The building is lovely and well situated. Breakfast was nice. The rooms aren´t bad but the showers weren´t hot and they don´t service the rooms while you are staying there (which in a country where you have to throw used toilet paper in a bin and not down the loo is a bit grim). If you get them to do your laundry make sure you ask when it will be ready (or you may find yourself freezing in shorts like me because they didn´t bother to do it until the next day). I´m sure there are better options in Tupiza.
