We stayed two nights in this hotel last May. It was a great experience, the room was big and comfortable, we loved the common areas and the amazing views. Food was good but the buffet style take away the magical experience. Recommend 100%

This hotel is magical and really is amazing. It is not a five star hotel, but it is very good, and more so since it is so remote. The rooms were warm, the were lots of blankets, the shower was hot and the restaurant's food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They had even switched on the heating in the room before we arrived to make sure the room was warm. Sure, it is a bit more expensive in every respect, but you are paying for the experience - and for us, it was a very beautiful place. We had a room facing the salt flats, and the sunset was great, as was going outside at night and watching the stars. If you are looking for a once in a lifetime splurge, this is it!

This hotel is awesome. Great rooms, views, the sunset is unforgettable. The service is awesome. The dining experience was one of the best in Bolivia. Definitely worth going. Electric blankets to save you from the cold cold nights - a luxury well appreciated after driving to the other Tayka hotels in the area. Beautiful in itself. Highly recommend.

Stayed one night mid June 2014 at this hotel. We were put in a room the farthest away from the reception and dining area that you could possibly be having to lug our bags up a long flight of stairs in the process. The room was freezing, the only heating that worked (there was central heating plus a gas fire but both inoperable) was a two bar electric heater which did not touch sides. There was nowhere to put your luggage so had to put them on the raw salt floor. Likewise there was nowhere in the bathroom to put any toileteries and no hooks or hangers for clothes or towels. The warmest place was in bed with electric blankets provided.

An altogether disappointing experience which we were looking forward to. A last point is that the outside view was a building site which one would have thought would have been completed by the start of the peak tourist season.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the long corridor before one gets to the dining hall

We have just spent three nights at hotel Luna Salada and would thoroughly recommend. As people have said, the majority of guests seem to be on a tour (we were not) and therefore during the day the hotel is very quiet (we were two of four guests). As you get to the evening more people arrive before leaving the following morning. Rooms are well decorated, and we were more than warm enough- there were several layers of duvet and throws on the bed. The food at the hotel is good, yes more expensive than other parts of Bolivia but when you see how remote the hotel is it feels understandable that it would cost a little more. We flew to Uyuni and the hotel arranged a transfer for us - it is $45 but you are travelling a long way (40mins) to the hotel and taxis at the airport, particularly if like us you have a late flight, are not as easy to come by. We arranged a one day tour of the salt flats through the hotel. We had a private tour and were able to ask to see all the things we most wanted to do e.g cactus island, the salt flats and see some flamingoes. Our driver (Hugo) was fantastic and took us to see all of these, including a part of the salt flat which was still under water so despite it being the dry season, we got to see the incredible reflections and take some amazing photos! Hugo spoke little English, we were worried initially that this might be an issue (as we only speak a little Spanish) but between the three of us had a fab day and many of the sights speak for themselves! Hugo gave us a guidebook in English too so it really wasn't a problem. It was nice to then retreat to the warmth of the hotel and have a nice glass of wine. The two ladies on reception were lovely and really helpful, arranging not only our day trip but also our train tickets to the boarder of Bolivia/Argentina on our departure. A great hotel overall and perfect if you want to independently visit the salt flats and not join a three day tour.

We were ready to be cold at this slat hotel but were pleasantly surprised by the gas fire in the room and log fires burning in the alcoves. It's position on a small rocky outcrop give tremendous views of the sunset and out across the flats. Food was good, although it is expensive compared to the rest of the country. Wifi available in the lobby.
Definitely worth staying there to see and experience salt as a building material and even as a floor covering!

No need for me to repeat what everyone else has said, other than to add that during my stay there was a 24-hour power cut which affected the area around Uyuni. The hotel has its own generator but even that ran out of fuel early the next morning, 16 hours after the power cut started. I was due to catch a flight early that morning but the hotel took in all the guests again after we returned from the airport, which was also not operational, and provided a very tasty full breakfast and lunch service, despite the lack of power. The reception staff offered good advice and contacted my next hotel to warn them of my potentially very late arrival. I'm certainly glad I could return here and wait several hours in comfort rather than hang around in Uyuni, which didn't look very inviting at all.

It's about 40km from Uyuni so it's quite expensive to get into town and back, and unless you take a tour direct from the hotel, you'll have to pay for the transfer to/from Uyuni, on top of your tour cost.
