“Whales in the Wild”

After spending a week at Vava'u I couldn't recommend Whales in the Wild enough. If you are after a truly unique experience with an incredible tour company then Whales in the Wild is for you.

Phil the owner of the tour company is a very layback and knowledgeable man. During my time with Whales in the Wild I saw Phil go above and beyond his role on countless occasions to both accommodate and benefit the guests. Phil and his team of local guides are so dedicated to making sure that their guests have a great time that many guests extend their time in Vava'u as a result.

I had three days out swimming with the Whales. Your day starts at 7am and usually finishes around 4pm. You have both a local guide and a skipper on board for the day. I found all of Phil's staff to be extremely experienced and considerate of their guests. The Tongan guides have so much knowledge and passionate regarding the whales and the islands, which they are only too happy to share with their guests. The guides also take you to many great places around the islands to snorkel in pristine waters, swim in caves and explore deserted islands.

The actual experience of swimming with the whales is indescribable. It is both a thrill and a privilege to swim and interact with such majestic creatures.

I really enjoyed my time in Tonga and with Whales in the Wild. Tonga seems to be a well-kept secret, and Whales in the wild a fantastic guide to show you all the beauty it has to offer.

“Best experience ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2013

We had 4 days with Phil Smith and guide Sione. It was fantastic, we saw individual whales, mothers and calves, plus a mother and calf with an escort, it was an unbelievable experience. We were also taken to beautiful water caves and coral reefs The masks, fins and wetsuits were all new and of great quality, a great lunch and snacks were provided, and best of all, the boat was easy to get on and off. If you want a holiday with a difference, then this is for you.

“Absolutely fabulous”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2013 via mobile

We spent 3 days in the boat. Swam with a calf and mother the first day, a singer the second and with 3 males and 1 female in a heat run the third. Phil and Siony are very experienced and spent a lot of time making sure you got the absolute most out of your day. Apart from the whales each day phil took us to a different places to snorkel, each one we thought was the best we had been to until the one we went to the next day. Lunch was a beautiful variety of fresh rolls, chicken, eggs, salmon and salad. The beaches we stopped at for lunch were like a picture postcard. The wet suits provided were very good quality as was the snorkelling gear. If your looking for a company that will try their upmost to give you the best experience they can possibly offer, you need to look no further. Loved it and can't wait to go again. Swimming with the whales is an absolute must to go on anyone's bucket list.

“An amazing experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 September 2013

We had 2 days out on the boats and I'm very glad we did as on the first day we didn't get the opportunity to swim with any whales though we did get quite close to a mother and calf. On the second day we got to swim with 2 males and it was amazing, one of the most surreal experiences of my life! We had different crew on our 2 days and I would say that the customer service that we got from Phil and Henry on the second day was the better of the 2 as they were really great. Bring a big bottle of water out with you and have a great time.

“MUST DO”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2013

This was the most amazing day! Phil and Henry, our Whale Experts, were incredible. Henry didn't take his eyes off the ocean all day, scouring for a whale. We thought jumping into the water to watch 2 lots of travelling whales go past us was incredible, and seeing an escort breach twice right in front of us, but then Henry spotted us a settled mum and calf, and we were able to swim with them twice. The extra effort they went to with lunch on an uninhabited island really made the day perfect! I would recommend these guys to anyone and everyone!!
