“Wow paradise found”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2008

This place was just crazy.

A two to three hour boat ride from Munda and we were there.

The rainforrest was unlike any I have seen, the vines were literally so thick that you couldnt see the trees.

This eco lodge perched on a small knoll 100 metres from a protected lagoon that is literally over flowing with marine creaures both big and small.

The hospitality was the best we had in the islands. Thank you Gloria and Johnson.

The real island style food was filling and absolutley delish. The fried fish was the best I have tasted ever, and I still cant beleive what you can do with a can of chilli tao tuna.

I brought 40 litres of fuel with me so I could go fishing every afternoon. The fishing was incredible, big mackerel every day and lots of them. These fish were eaten every night by very happpy rangers and guests.

One day exploring the coast I counted 9 surf breaks, of which only 3 have been ridden.

I would follow small streams inland amazed by the sound of birds, insects and the like. Coconut crabs wander around at night sometimes even wandering in to where you sleep. Sweet rain water, no electricity at all. Breakfast at 7 am and fast asleep by 9 pm. The cost was around 50 aud per person inclusive of all meals. You must bring your own petrol so you can go out on the boats. So many things to do, so littlle time.

The snokelling in the lagoon was incredible, sharks, barracuda, mouri wrasse, parrot fish, dugons, turtles and the odd salt water croc.

If you are even remotley thinking about going to the solomons then you must look into this pace. WHile it may be hard to get in contact with them ( we got them on the radio from Munda) they will come and get you right on time.

I AM DEFINATELY COMING BACK.

ONE WORD

PARADISE

  • Liked — Going out to the toliet at night and getting blown away by the stars and forgetting about the toilet

This place was amazing. The largest uninhabited island in the South Pacific and such friendly people. This is a very small scale ecotourism operation so only 15 people stay at once. Great custom leaf house accommodation, locally produced food (excellent fish) and the snorkeling was incredible. This is a conservation project set up to conserve the island so the guides are well trained in pointing out wildlife etc. We took our two young children (1 and 3) and they also had a great time. Very child friendly. Its pretty basic accommodation though so dont expect resort style standards. Low key, wixing with locals and the highlight is the wilderness old growth rainforest and pristine reefs.

  • Liked — relaxed, friendly, locally senseive, eco-tourism style
  • Tips/Secrets — dont expect a resort but an amazing rainforest/snorkeling/cultural experience in an untouched paradise
