We accessed this blue hole up the Matevulu River, one of the most pristine rivers I've ever travelled up. We commenced our journey from the river mouth, just over the channel from Oyster Island Resort.
On the way up the river we spotted watercress growing on the banks, local villagers pick this daily for their salad vegetables. The river is salt water and then it becomes very blue and clear the further you go up the river. The scenery along the way is magnificent with huge old banyan trees lining the banks in some parts, and other species of rainforest trees and near the salt water - old mangrove trees.
We kept winding our way along the river and then the water gets clearer and clearer and bluer and bluer as we reached the end of the river and the most beautiful blue hole on Santo. Locals told us it was at least 60 metres deep and fed by a natural spring. Photos don't do it justice. Peaceful, beautiful, pristine, so much untouched beauty. I'll never forget it!
