Champagne Beach certainly lived up to reviews I read about before my trip. The water is a lovely turquoise blue and incredibly warm and the white sand was soft like fine powder. My mum actually commented that the water was a little too warm for her as it was bath water temperature and she prefers to swim in colder water. Most of the passengers on our cruise loved snorkelling and swimming in the warm water though. :)
Make sure to take Australian Dollars with you if you plan to purchase drinks (non alcoholic or alcoholic), snacks or trinkets from the market (if you're visiting as a part of a cruise). If you do visit on a cruise ship you won't have to pay an entry fee but I've heard that if you visit on your own you'll have to pay to gain entry to the beach. There are also clean toilet facilities available.
Just make sure to steer clear of the dogs that roam around the beach and to take reef shoes. The side of the beach near the pier has soft sand underfoot in the water but the right hand side of the beach has a lot of coral under the water, to watch out for.
