We chose to be married at Lonnac for their beautiful beach. The staff bent over backwards to make our day special. The local pastor married us and people from the local village even come down for a look. They provided everything we needed, making a beautiful alter from fresh flowers, the cake, food, lae and headpiece, and a local string band. We then stayed 10days for complete relaxation. They clean the room daily and always have someone around if needed.Lonnac is very secluded and a bit of a drive to the town. They don't have fridges in the rooms and only run on a generator which is only on sparingly. They do provide day trips at a cost to other places.Good place to relax and do nothing.Beautiful snorkling even sea turtles are spotted.

We have just returned from a 2-week plus stay in Vanuatu, the first 5 days spent in Santo, 3 of which we stayed at Lonnoc Beach Bungalows.

This is not classified as a resort so the accommodation is far more island comfort than 'European' luxury, however, as a recent review noted, everything to keep ourselves clean and comfortable was provided.

Lonnoc Beach itself is absolutely beautiful, clear waters, island views and all so very pristine.

Now - for the people. Karl and Lia, you run this place magnificently and we especially loved getting to know many of the students from the Hospitality College which you sponsor, and, who were instrumental in the fine table service and meals as part of their training. Well done, we really appreciated it all. Every meal was a delight, from the delicious curries to the stir fried fish.

Daniel, our driver and tour director. Thank you for so much.....Our day at Port Olry - we will never forget the lobster! Then on to the Nanda Bue Hole - what an experience and another never to be forgotten. Absolutely paradise. A short walk from Lonnoc found us at Champayne Beach, another unforgettable experience. Having visited Santo many years ago, I have only just discovered the 'bubbles' - hence the name, Champayne.

Alec, thank you for your help in all things pertaining to your area, and to the lovely ladies who kept our bungalows and front yard beach constantly looking like a postcard.

Would the four of us come back again? ABSOLUTELY!!

We stayed at Lonnoc beach bungalows for 9 nights. The location is great if you really want to do nothing - as apart from swimming and relaxing there's nothing to do!

We slept in the deluxe bungalow, which is the furthest from the restaurant (approx 100m) so away from the generator. This bungalow was quite nice, very close to the ocean so it's very loud! There were a few minor issues - we had some sea rats that kept eating our soap and nibbles in the room - not ideal if you don't like rodents. The bathroom and outdoor shower is not closed off from the rest of the bungalow, meaning bugs and insects can fly in and out at their leisure.

The bungalows are powered by a generator which runs from approx 9am to midday and 5 pm til 9pm. Then it's lights out!

The beach itself is gorgeous. There's also Champagne beach which is a 10 min walk away and absolutely spectacular. There's lots of great snorkeling and free kayaking (from Lonnoc).
The staff are all friendly and helpful, and are always willing to chat to practice their English.

There is only one place to eat at Lonnoc, so all meals are at the restaurant. The meals are nice, however there are only 4 main meals on the menu. Occasionally there is a lobster special. This restaurant is not flash if you're vegetarian, so that may be an issue, as there is one satay chicken dish, a steak, a beef curry and a fish dish. Next door to Lonnoc is Tuwoc bungalows and they have a similar menu. They get into Champagne beach for free though - for those staying at Lonnoc is 500 VT per person (approx 6 AUD).

If you're staying for a few days a visit to Port Olry is a must as this beach is spectacular! The restaurant there takes AGES to cook your lunch so be prepared to wait a couple of hours - island time!! The blue swimming hole is also amazing on the way to Port Olry.

Overall we had a very relaxing time at Lonnoc.

We've just spent 3 nights at Lonnoc beach bungalow and loved it ( late August ) The setting is beautiful, great trees, nice gardens, turquoise sea, safe swimming, free kayaks. the bungalows are basic but have everything you need and are very clean. Nivan Owner Karl and daughter Lia manage the place with a great level of professionalism and friendliness as well. Nothing is too much bother for them. Power is provided by generator which is turned on in the morning and again after 5 pm. Free Internet. Good food. Champagne beach is a 10 mn walk and provides great snorkeling with turtles. Port Orly is also great to visit. For fishing or snorkeling around Elephant island, ask for local man George who owns a boat and will take you there. This place was the highlight of our 3 week stay in vanuatu.

This place is typical of local accommodation in the South Pacific. Basic facilities, warm and friendly people and a very laid back atmosphere.

We spent a week here and it was great. We walked to Champagne Beach (remember to pay on your way in)which is idyllic and on another occasion we arranged to be taken further up the coast to Port Olry and on the way back stopped at the Blue Hole. During our stay we went to the church for a service and although not religious or able to understand much of the language it was a great experience. If you are there on a Sunday it is worth taking the time to share with the locals the church service. Great singing.

Room Tip: We had a basic bungalow with cold water which is not a problem. We even managed to have a pig sleep...

My family and I stayed at Lonnoc for 4 nights. We had already stayed in similar accommodation on Tanna Is so we knew what to expect.
The location is simply stunning. The bungalows are very basic and I have to say the food was a little average. The supermarkets and local markets in Luganville are very well stocked so I think it should be very easy and cheap to have a little more variety to choose from. Things like fresh fruit /vegies and fresh fruit juice should be easily accessible but some days there was very little if any. They had gone to town 1 day and got supplies including icecream for a special dinner that evening. So the kids were very excited about having desert it cost us nearly AUD $30 for 4 bowls of plain icecream. Just little things that could have been handled a little better would have made a difference.
Unfortunately we didn't find the staff that friendly or genuine so overall we didn't really get a good vibe from Lonnoc. Even our 2 kids commented.
We did sneak next door to Towoc for dinner 1 night and found the owner Janet really friendly and helpful. The food was similar but the atmosphere much more genuine. There is some politics between Lonnoc and Towoc so we were quizzed back at Lonnoc about not eating dinner that night! We also chatted to her and she arranged for a young man to take our son out fishing in a canoe the next day.
The only tour we did organised through Lonnoc was a fishing / snorkeling trip with a local fisherman. The snorkeling on the otherside of Elephant Is was very good. We caught 1 fish and lost a couple more much to the annoyance of the fisherman. ( we wanted to give the kids a go too)We got the impression that anything we caught he would keep and sell.
When we went to pay him it was 3 x times what Lonnoc had quoted so it was a bit embarrasing. The price was a bit expensive as I think he would have made about $50 AUD an hour for our trip. Wish I got paid that much. $80 per week seemed to be an average wage for hotel staff????
Bob and Wendy who were running Lonnoc when we stayed were leaving the next week to study tourism in Vila. I think the place will either improve or go downhill fast.
I think you would have to go a long way to find a more beautiful location but I would also check out Towoc Bungalows next door. There are lots of bungalows at Lonnoc so it does loose a little in atmosphere also because of this.
The transfers to Lonnoc from Luganville were going to be 14000 vatu so we rented a car from The Espiritu in Luganville at about 7000 vatu p/day We could then explore the northern area at our leisure. We visited Port Olry and Nanda blue hole. Luganville is only about 45mins away so having a car gives many more options and I think for a family would be much cheaper than booking tours through Lonnoc.
So overall beautiful but......

A beautiful place to spend our last 3 days in Vanuatu, wish we had stayed in more of this type of accommodation. Simple, clean, comfortable and affordable. Food was some of the best we had during our 2 weeks, although it possibly could get a little repetitive. We stayed in a 2 bedroom bungalow no. 7 (I think) with en suite, large cold water shower, double bed with foam mattress and other room had 2 single beds with inner spring mattresses, firm but comfy. Good mozzie nets and bath towels provided. Mosquito coils, matches and lantern (we used our own head torches for reading at night), plus a large plastic box to keep any food in. Table and chairs both inside and out on the veranda. Kayaks were free but I believe there was a charge for snorkel gear (we had our own). I kayaked around the point to view Champagne Beach which didn't look that different to Lonnoc which I think had everything, except for good snorkeling. Possibly due to the bad weather. We were actually cold a lot of our 2 weeks and the sunniest day was our last at Lonnoc! I walked to a nearby village and was often asked if I was here as a volunteer rather than a tourist. Seems there are a lot of Aid programs throughout Vanuatu. People are genuinely open, happy and so relaxed. I also visited Port Olry and spent a lovely time exploring the village and beach, even the sun came out! Lunched at a beautiful little restaurant on the beach which provided fantastic coffee. Lonnoc is definitely a beautiful place to spend a few days relaxing. Transport and tours are easily arranged by the very helpful staff. Just remember to ask for what you want as not all is evident. The school of Hospitality is right next door to the restaurant and some students tend to be a bit on the shy side when serving, so be patient please. Camping is also possible here and there are showers and toilet to use near restaurant. There is a 6% credit card fee so you may want to bring cash if you find this too high.
