“Great budget lodge..”

..which does not compromise on quality or atmosphere. Comfortable rooms, really good food cooked up by a super-friendly chef ( great fish and chips) and a lively and convivial bar. The setting accompanied by the jungle sounds at night is magnificent on the river bank. We enjoyed a day trip jetting up the river and being poled through the delta, magnificent vistas and lots of wildlife.
Our room was fine for the price but it could be that the bathroom facilities may need a little attention and upgrading.

Lets start with the good stuff. The bar is located on a great spot overlooking the river. Its usually busy and it is a great spot to meet people and have a good time. They serve really tasty and good food for a good price. The staff is friendly and helpful. We stayed there in what i called "mini" meru tents, which is in itself a perfect place to sleep. Comfortable beds though a bit short for me at least.
So far so good. For the rest the place is completely rundown. The ablution blocks (though clean) are falling apart, the doors don't close so as it happens when using the toilet someone is actually next to you doing his teeth. There is hardly any water coming from the showers as the shower heads are completely clogged (which is easily fixed and doesn't cost anything). It seems the owners have no real interest in maintaining the place which is a shame as it potentially can be a really nice place being in this location and all.

If you are after an experience on a budget and don't mind having the trimmings, then this is the place. I had three nights and four days here early May 2013 and was very pleased with all aspects. The Manager/Owner Neil was extremely helpful and knowledgable. The food is good and priced well as are the rooms - comfy bed, hot shower and not too far out of town. The bar, kitchen and cleaning staff are all very polite and helpful and endeavour to ensure you will have a good time. The evenings around the bar and fire are lively and fun and the benefit of leaving on a boat cruise on the delta from the beach in front of the bar is a huge plus. approx US$3.00 for a 10 minute taxi ride to the town of Maun is a bonus. If you are after silver service, wake up calls and fine dining then this is not for you. But if you are after a great fun experience with locals and fellow travellers without the 'creature comforts' then the Okavango River Lodge is the place to be. Have a great time - Thanks ORL Team Regards Scott from Brisbane Queensland Australia - can't wait to return to the ORL soon. : )

We stayed 3 nights in the chalets - clean but very tired and in need of refurbishment. We believed there to be a self catering kitchen - there is a very dirty sink, a gas hot plate and that is it. Despite the heat the 'self catering' fridge was not working! Staff food is cooked here at lunch time and then the dirty plates left until the next day...this was not as expected! I have stayed in cleaner dirty backpackers. Glad we did not stay in the tents!!
Good location, good food and reasonably helpful staff. We would not stay here again!

I've stayed in the chalets which were clean on arrival but I was dissapointed that they never went in to clean during the 2 days I stayed there. They can do laundry for you at least which is great. The colleagues I was travelling with stayed in the bedded tents and they didn't complain.

Food is really great, affordable and comes in generous portions. There is a great atmosphere and many locals travel from the other side of Maun for a meal or a drink on the river. The manager Neil is friendly but the old lady that owns or manages the place sits at the bar drinking beer all day and never smiles. Some friendliness from her would make a big differene!

The en suite chalet is cheaper than the bedded tent at Audi camp and the food is better by miles, so definitely choose ORL above Audi.

Room Tip: The chalets are en suite with fans and mozzie nets.

We stayed in a beddes tent and it had a huge hip! The most dirty ablution ever, it seen that they hadn´t clean it in months, the drain wouldn´t work, sinks clogged, no ligths(I had to take my flasligth to the bath), the doors wouldn´t close, bugs everywhere!
I asked previously for a tour and when we arrived it had not been arranged! The manager is ery Rude, would not listen to any feedback and and wanted to charge us for a nigth that we had cancelled 4 weeks before!
The worst acomodation we came across all the way from south africa, zambia and botswana.

Permanent tents were clean, roomy and comfortable. Food at the restaurant was great. The manager Neil was incredibly helpful in helping us organise activities and safaris and made everything so much easier for us.

It's a little bit further out of town than most places but easy enough to get to.
