Owner description: Simien Mountains National Park, in northern Ethiopia is a spectacular landscape, where massive erosion over millions of years has created jagged mountain peaks, deep valleys and sharp precipices dropping some 1,500 m. The park is of global significance for biodiversity conservation because it is home to globally threatened species, including the iconic Walia ibex, a wild mountain goat found nowhere else in the world, the Gelada baboon and the Ethiopian wolf.

We were 3 persons and we travelled around Ethiopia from 3 until 21 Feb 2016 (ADD, Bahar Dar, Gondar, trek Simien M.N.P, Axum, Lalibela, Omo valley).
We wanted to do a short trekking in Simien Mountain National Park and camping for one night. Also we wanted the transportation from Gondar to S.M.N.P and from S.M.N.P to Axum.

We communicated with many travel agencies and read the reports of travelers. We chose to trust Dezy and his travel agency and he did not disappoint us. He offered the best price but our gratitude is for more.

We chose to travel with Dezy (Desalgn Gebrie).

He took us from our hotel in Gondar with minivan to Simien Mountain National Park. We were only six (6) persons hiking. We had a short and easy hike (5-6 hours) from Buyit Ras to Sankaber camp (3240m). We took in beautiful views of the landscape and we saw a lot of gelada baboons. From Sankaber we began hiking following the ridge and look out over the foothills 800m down. From the ridge we descended down into the valley and were able to view the Jinbar River plunging into the Geech Abyss. After some time at the waterfall, Dezy picked us up and drove to Axum by private car.

Dezy organized and took care of everything: transportation from hotel in Gondar, choice of the best assistants (trek guide, scout, cook), entrance fees in N.P, the purchase of materials for the evening meal and breakfast, the tents, sleeping bags, mattresses, the blankets, transport to Axum.

All of the above are very important for someone who has spent money on an experience and feels happy because this experience proved to be excellent!

We also appreciate a lot Dezy because when we faced a problem in Michael Hotel in Gondar he was there to solve it. We had booked and paid there with jovago.com but the employee in Michael Hotel demanded to be paid again because the hotel hadn’t received the payment from Jovago.
(Note: This was a problem only with Michael hotel and not with other hotels we had booked and paid around Ethiopia through Jovago.com. Jovago has already returned us the amount we had been charged for Michael hotel, so we have no complaints, we are very happy with the choice of Jovago!!)

This made us very angry and almost ruined our day, but at that moment Dezy appeared and helped us to resolve the situation. After that he gave us a ride to the Fasiladas Palace and in the evening he came again and took us for dinner at the best restaurant of Gondar ‘’four sisters’’.

We want to thank Dezy for the excellent hike organization at the mountain, the best choice of assistants, the help of the hotel in Gondar and the excellent, careful driving in difficult roads to Axum at night.

We recommend Dezy unreservedly. We hope to help you!!!

Simien Mountains are a great place to visit, my favourite in Ethiopia (I traveled one month, and I absolutely fell in love in this landscape!). Better if you take a longer trek, on the third day you reach the best view points. At night is quite cold, during the day really hot, and the altitude makes you feel so weak... Be well prepared, ask many questions before you buy the trek (I know many examples of people who paid for some service who wasn't available, some tour agents are really cheating with the price and services! ) I can recommend my guide, Sahlie. He is a nice Ethiopian gentleman, great companion and good tour guide. If you have any questions, contact him: sahlie.simien@gmail.com
Enjoy your stay in Simien!

To sit quietly just watching the Gelada baboon up close is to be experienced. they are the closest primates to man kind. Although wild they are at peace with humans being close to them. there are hundreds of them, but only up at the top of the Simien Mountain National Park> the views from the top are exquisite with the large Erica trees, the ancient abesinian Rose and the Double billed black raven. One day is tooo short.

I can really recommend Jemal Hussein of Simien Park Tours who provided a 2 nights/3 day trek in Simiens. Jemal is very knowledgeable about birds (one of our main interests) as well as the plants and other animals and he was very thoughtful in accommodating the varying fitness levels and abilities of a group ranging from 10 to 60 years. All arrangements went well and we had 3 course meals cooked for us at the campsite on both nights. We all had a brilliant time even though for some of us walking at 4,000 metres was hard work. The views are amongst the most stunning we have seen in our lives. I highly recommend the Simiens and it was one of the best trips. Only downside is some drop loos at the campsites are very stinky and dirty.

I went on a short one day trek here. My luggage was transported to meet me in the evening, so it was much less a trek than a hike. I'm not sure if this is the case with all the tours. The scenery was quite amazing. It was fun for an afternoon to be among the Gelada Baboons.
