stayed here for two weeks for usual summer holiday,, first impressions, fantastic,, but start chipping away, you find basic faults, staff are brilliant, service to match, always got the underlying feeling something wasnt right, as you would expect this paradise to be perfect. The beach was a no go area, due to the beach boys selling their wares, and in a threatening manner, hence the guards posted there, ( bit of a give away i suppose), probably wouldnt visit again,, which is a shame as it has a lot of promise.

We had stayed at the Sun and Sand on our last visit but it is not on any travel brochures now. The original owner died and lhis son took over and doesnt seem like he is a good business person as he has had half the rooms demolished with the idea of building luxury appartments for families from the Nairobi area. The place now looks very run down and this has also had an affect on the village. The shops in the village have dissapeared and it looks very run down too but the people are still so cheerful and friendly. This is such a shame as the village was lovely and the area the hotel is in is superb. Just hope that someone will see sence and buy out this place and turn it in to the hotel it once was.

We originally stayed here in 1995 (got engaged) and had a great time. It was lively, fresh and friendly with good food etc. We went back a second time to take the kids and we were disapointed. The place feels run down now, the staff seem tired and the food has lost its sparkle. If you do go, take a guided trip in to the village and meet the people. They are an inspiration. The school is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Ask to look over the pool or in the quiet circular block with its own pool and waterfall.

If the rumours are true that Sun and Sand is being demolished to make way for Apartments then it will be sad. It wasn't the best hotel in the area but I rated it as excellent because when we stayed the food was great and The Staff were truely awesome. I had a massage and after, the Beauty Therepist took me to meet her family, they didn't ask me for anything but we shared some Chi and lots of laughter.Sorry and Sad.

Room Tip: If they are closing there is no point.

I was booked in for 3 nights at this hotel, but i had to be moved to a new hotel after seeing the condition it was in. The hotel is going to be demolished and changed into beach apartments, therefore the hotel is not being well maintained anymore. Most of the rooms are empty, they have started closing some bars (like the pool bar) and some swimming pools. It makes the place feel like a ghost town with dirty pools, dirty walls, stripped down bars with nothing but dust and sand in them. In all i think this used to be a great hotel, probably one of the biggest ever built in Mombasa, 7 amazing pools, like 3 restaurants and about 3 large bars. However most of them are not running due to the re-construction.

The rooms are not well maintained as some things are broken and old. The toilets were the most shocking with the tap rusting and mold growing all over. Even if a hotel is closing down there should be some things running properly. The toilet would not flush properly and there was a lot of ants walking all over the toilet. (maybe they are not cleaning properly)

This place is also to isolated, so if your looking for a place with a quiet beach then this place is great. (am not to critical but the beach is not so beautiful with to much rocks). Otherwise if your looking for a place with lots to do outside the hotel then its better to go closer to Mombasa town.

Overall I believe this place was great but due to the reconstruction they haven't maintained it so much. I would suggest maybe waiting till the reconstruction is done, or at least if your going here have a car so that you can go outside the hotel.

Hope this helps.

Sun N Sand was simply an awesome experience,

The highlight of this magical resort that is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city life was the interconnected pools running all through the expansive beach resort .The restaurants are exclusive and the different themed dinners all through the week made us eager for great evenings - The musical band, dance crew and acrobat teams made the experience quite memorable. The rooms are exquisite complete with a balcony which gave a panoramic view of the ocean and the rest of the resort whose architecture is worth taking in-it is a great place to relax and take in the ocean breeze.
I highly recommend!!

Truly amazing, friendly staff, clean rooms. Staff can't do enough to help you. I would love to go back here as my sister got married here. Defiantly recommend.
Thing to do while your there a safari defiantly it is unreal and you get to see a lioness metres away from you feeding at one of the lodges you stop at. Visit haller park which is a taxi ride away you will be gutted if you don't google it if you want to know more on it but it is defiantly worth a trip. Have a great holiday I know I did :-)

Travelled in 2010 for 2 weeks not 2012 like it says it wouldn't let me change it
