but just a couple changes/updates to rooms (mostly the bathrooms) would make this an excellent property. I did see a few times that the frontdesk staff were overwhelmed too.

That being said, this is definitely on the tourist (read: group tour) trail, so they do get inundated from time to time.

Overall though, the possibility of hippo viewing, boat rides on the lake, and wildebeest, zebra, and waterbuck mowing the lawn, and the grounds themselves make this a spot worth staying at. There are also (and this is special for Kenya) several good hiking areas around the lake that are easy half-days from the property. Nice for a stop to or from the Mara.

Located at the shores of Lake Naivasha, with beautiful and extensive gardens playing host to a herd of Water Buck, couple of zebras, troop of monkeys, hippopotami at night and many water birds, it is indeed a glorious spot. As one of the older resorts around Lake Naivasha, it is showing its age. The rooms (in the main section of hotel) needs major refurbishment. In my room there was no hot water and TV and some plug points weren't working the first night. The tented camp at the lake edge seems in far better condition. The buffet meals could be improved in terms of quality and variety. Given its prime idyllic location, I hope the owners will make the necessary improvements to its facilities and meal services to realize the hotel's full potential. The staff were welcoming and helpful.

On the up side is the amazing access to the wildlife preserve on the island -- which is actually a peninsula out in Lake Naivasha. Also, the hippos sleep in the lake just off property and at night they come up into the marshes surrounding the property at the edge of the lake and then they eventually make their way up onto the lawn of the hotel property. It is amazing to watch them feeing up close during the night. There are also many other animals who roam the grounds of there property. However, this hotel is very dated and the facilities are out dated. It is not comfortable and far from luxury. My first room was one of the "luxury" tents. It is far from a luxury. There was *no* water pressure and there was absolutely NO hot water in the shower. NONE of the tents had water pressure or hot water. The bathroom had mould growing in the shower. There were bugs in the bed when I pulled the sheets back at night. I was moved to a room in the main building which did have water pressure and hot water. However the room was dirty. There was mould growing in the bathroom. The door did not close properly and it would have taken only a slight pressure to push them open so it was not secure at all.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the tents. They look lovely in the photos but are a huge disappointment. Also the t...

My family of four stayed for one night and had a great experience overall.

The property itself was stunning; with waterbuck, wilderbeast, and monkeys walking around throughout the property while you lounge on the lawn at the umbrella equipeed table. The service staff was friendly and welcoming and the food was great. We took our 2nd lunch at the luxury tent facility that sits over the lake. It was a beautiful setting and The his and chef provided and excellent lunch for us.

The only drawbacks we experienced were minor but for a resort of this nature a little irritating:

We booked at a great rate through Hotels.com for a suite with a king bed and a sofa bed. We were placed into a suite with a roll a way bed. We have 2 children and one had to sleep with us. I inquired at the front and was told they were all booked. Yet from what we saw only a few other guests were there. So what we booked and the description of the room provided did not match.

Also no one had change. We brought shillings to pay for incidentals and tips, yet the staff regularly had trouble providing change for 1000 shilling bills.

The facility itself need some maintenance and upgrades. The wifi is very spotty and the general condition of most if the exterior is worn.

Overall for the price we paid we were delighted and enjoyed ourselves. Thanks

Spent a night at the luxury tents on the lake, the tented camps provided a wonderful and unrestricted view of the lake. The room was nice and big, but the bathrooms left much to be desired. It did not have any curtains/doors, so it did not really make practical sense for a family with children (unless you believed in the nudist philosophy).

The exclusive restaurant for the luxury tents had a brilliant ambience, but i wish we had a better choice of menu. The presentation rivals a 5 star hotel, but what they serve is a fixed menu, and in case you are not fond of the main dish, you go to bed hungry.

Had a problem with the getting hot water in the morning - took several calls to get the hot water flowing, and delayed us by at least 30 minutes.

Having said that, the Lake Naivasha itself is wonderful. Had a great boat ride watching a host of birds in all their splendour. We saw the odd hippo in the water too. I understand that hippos come on to the hotel lawns for grazing at night, but we were not adventurous enough to venture out for a tete-a-tete. A good place for a night, but dont bargain for more.

Room Tip: All tents face the lake - choose one in the front row for a better view.

Stayed here for one night on our safari.
The landscape here is a little lusher and greener than other parts of the journey and the hotel sits on the shore of lake naivasha. It is often used for conferences etc from the surrounding areas so you can expect a variation of clients during your stay.
Whilst here, you must take a boat ride around the lake. The huge variety in bird life is amazing and you should also see the odd hippo in the water too. I understand these come ashore at night to graze outside the lodges and, although we never saw one on land, the 'evidence' was clearly there the next morning!
Rooms were a little small and the dining adequate but the beautiful flora and fauna more than make up for this. An amazing place and well worth a stopover.
