“Very good - for Pointe Noire...”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

The hotel is right on the beach, only separated from it by a strip of tarmac used by taxis and 4x4s as a drag strip. The outside restaurant is pretty good overall, and they do a "meal of the day" which is around $10(US) - or about five times what they pay their staff - they only cater to the expat market, so if you want Congolese food, you need to go to the Gare du PV and eat at one of the ngandas (delicious and much cheaper). The rooms vary from really quite nice in the refurbished block to outdated and damp in the older parts of the hotel. Breakfast is served upstairs in an air-conditioned restaurant, but is not worth the $10. Nice swimming pool, mainly used by bored French wives for exercise classes.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room, or go elsewhere.

I was booked into Palm Beach by my local agent as a place to base myself for a number of meetings at the port.
Upon arrival to the hotel, I was pleasantly surprised by its location right on the beach front. Walking up the driveway, the pool to the left looked inviting and upon checking in, the reception looked clean and modern. Unfortunately it all went downhill from there. Walking to my room, the decor deteriorated, the steps up to my room (on the first floor) were cracking and the room was as basic as basic can get - a room (with an air-conditioning unit that required a service) with a bed and a bathroom that could certainly have done with a brush or paint or modernising. Breakfast was pretty average. The next day, I saw the Atlantic Palace and decides to compare prices. For an additional 30,000CFA you can stay at a very modern, stylish, clean Atlantic Palace with excellent WIFI coverage, so I did!

I staid at this hotel more than 10 times over the last two years. The staff is very friendly and helpful, rooms are very clean , WIFI is free and it works well , AC works in most rooms. Security is not an issue on the grounds as they keep outsiders (including prostitutes) away from the hotel. Very good location easy access. never a problem to make a reservation using e-mail. Rooms are always ready when I arrive even at 06:00hrs in the morning.
As of Nov 2011 they are going through a major upgrade of the older rooms and the grounds, that was needed. The swimming pool will be very nice, i cannot wait for the open air restaurant to re-open. Fish and pizzas are very good and very reasonably priced, beer is always cold.
Three good restaurants within walking distance from the Hotel. a jog along the sea front is nice and safe. A gym is in the renovation plan.
Price are very high compare to Europe and the US, but remember where you are.
Beds are large but very firm, great if you have back problems, bad for my old bones!

I stayed there for 4 nights, at the 3rd floor, new building. Great view to the beach (not for swimm). The room was very clean, with aircon, jacuzzi and hot water. Outside not very nice. Breakfast poor and not apetizing. The croissants were from the day before and fruits had a very weird taste. Coffee is horrible. There is a nice swimming pool.

Clean and safe. Reception seemed reasonably organised but didn't like charging anything to the room. Breakfast was poor and not very appetizing, stick to coffee and croissants. Rooms clean and well equipped, no room safes but security didn't seem to be an issue. Greta restaurant just a short walk from hotel. Good point is that Euros accepted everywhere.
Only problem the whole trip was the airport with security. Club lounge absolute rubbish.

Afer the experience in the Hotel Saint Jaques Bord de Mer we changed to Palm Beach Hotel, which is owned by the Lebanese family, which also owns the local airline "TAC" (Trans Air Congo). It is nicely located on the Côte Sauvage - separated from the beach only by the corniche.

It is a nice set of two-storey buildings - all rooms with a seaside view. Even standard rooms are big and everything works - including at least some service. We paid 120 Euros for the standard room (this was on ground level, which seems to be cheaper). They have a nice garden with pool and bar / restaurant with seaside view.

The hotel is very expensive for what it offers.
The rooms need urgent renovation. There was a lot of noise coming from the works that are ongoing right next to the hotel. Air conditioning also noisy. During the night the noise came from the massive generator that kept the energy "alive".
Hookers like this place as well, maybe because it is frequently used by expats working for a major french oil company...
The location is good, right in front of the sea.
