A well hidden gem and a wonderful surprise hidden beteeen George and Mossel Bay. Spectacular views were only eclipsed by a 4 day old baby elephant. An absolute little charmer; we wish him a long life. Good place if you are into wild bird spotting too.

Be good to see a few more lions though and perhaps in a larger enclosure.

Service in the dining area was capable and not intrusive. Good cross section of food on offer at the buffet. Stunning, huge roaring fireplaces in the common lounge more than made up for some grotty weather during our stay.

We will certainly go again.

Wow...this is the best 4 star accommodation we have ever stayed at...I dont understand why they dont have 5 stars! Its perfect from the second you arrive to when you leave. Friendly staff, amazing interiors, the tents are luxurious and beautiful. Superb finishes...only the best. Its the little things they attend to. You get a glass of champagne and a snack bowl on arrival while you fill in the forms. Then they escort you to the tent where they explain how everything works and complimentary sherry and fruit bowl in your tent. There is a mini bar and electric blankets and bear throws so its perfect for winter accommodation. The best thing is the log fires in the dining are that is always burning...it creates such a warm ambiance. Dinner was superb and so was breakfast. I recommended this for any occasion and the best in the Garden route. We will be back! Thank to the owners for sharing their peace of heaven with us!

This is my second review of Botlierskop but our first return visit since their recent upgrade. Our stay was truly spectacular and we are once again planning another visit since we are blessed enough to live only 4 hours away from this piece of heaven. We received 5 star treatment from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. The upgraded lodge is warm and inviting with spectacular views in every direction. This was our final destination after a 2 week holiday along the Garden Route and it was a perfect finish to our holiday. The service, the staff, the accommodation, the activities and the food are outstanding and this is a stop over not to be missed. Although the rest of my family are meat eaters, I only eat the occasional piece of fish so am always concerned when we are heading into a buffet dinner situation. There is however, something for everyone and they were more than willing to prepare a separate meal for me. It was not necessary since there is plenty of choice anyway. Breakfast was delicious and very single thing you could possibly want is on offer, including delicious Méthode Cap Classique and orange to round off a decadent breakfast. Our children enjoyed their stay too which was great as we were a little concerned that it was not the ideal place to take them. Dinner was somewhat wasted on them and it may be nice to see a simpler children's menu introduced. This would not effect our decision to go back though and we understand that this is ideally a wonderful adult escape. I cannot imagine anyone leaving Botlierskop with a complaint. It is outstanding and we look forward to going back. Thank you to everyone at Botlierskop for another magical stay.

This is truly a wonderful place. We only stayed one night but it felt like home the moment we entered the reserve. Amazing staff and activities. We did a long horseride-observing zebras, rhinos elephants, wilderbeasts and a lot of 'boks'!! Today we had the elephant back ride-a must!! Food excellent as is the accommodation. 5 star luxury-not to be missed!!

What a stunning venue! Where to start!?
Rooms / tents (that's tents with four-poster beds and 5 star luxury) - perfectly situated with stunning views and resident wildlife.... don't be put off by this - just make the most of the amazing photo opportunities!
Restaurant - buffet style, but beautifully done. A wide selection of meats barbecued to your preferences with very well prepared accompaniments, a good wine list and friendly service. And a surprisingly good vegetarian selection,
Activities - this is what it's all about! It's relatively small reserve and of course nothing like visiting Kruger or the Serengeti, but the tours are rewarding and hosted by very knowledgeable rangers. We saw giraffe, buffalo, springbok, eland, zebra, rhino (including a calf!), nyala, water buck and more besides!
An absolute must is the "Lion walk".... an hour stroll with two lionesses with plenty of photo opportunities - that's right! Walking with lions! No cages, no leashes just you (well.... 10 of you!), 4 rangers and 2 young lions!
And there's plenty more to do from elephant ride / feeding, fishing and plenty more.

Room Tip: At this time (July 2014), the Rand - Sterling exchange rate is very much in favour of the UK travell...

We stayed there for only one night. Did the 1 hour Elephant Ride and the 3 hour Game Drive and the lovely breakfast. Your staff .... WOW !!! Thanks to Merlin who did my booking. You are a star. Christo, our guy helping us with lagguage ect ... wonderful meeting you. And Richard, our game-drive-guide!! WHAT an awesome guy. Jy is 10 sterre werd vir daardie Lodge. Jy het ons trip onvergeetlik gemaak!! Our Elephant handlers - wonderful people, thanks and to our three elephants: Sam, Shemba and Tsotsi - I hope you are happy. You deserve it. Only complaint - pls tell the people that their cars are not going to the tents. That was a bummer for us having a lot of lagguage that had to sleep in the car. Would have packed an overnight case if I knew it beforehand. Otherwise - a fantastic experience. Thanks a lot. Was an honour being the 1st visitors after re-opening. Jannora and Paul Pais Betty's Bay.

Room Tip: The tents are all fantastic so, no matter which you choose, it will be an enjoyable stay.

We spent a night at the newly opened reserve resort. We did the 2 hour horseback safari which was fab and really not a problem for a novice like me. In the morning we did the Game Drive which was superb. We saw Giraffe, Lion, Rhino and many many more. Great knowledgeable staff. The dinner in the evening was great with a lovely breakfast in the morning. The only problem we had was with the heating in our tent which was a first night problem and they sorted it out. Only reason this is not 5/5 but I would thoroughly recommend this place and will be visiting with my kids.

Dear Malcolm

Thank you so much for your review
Great to have hosted you as one of our first guests after our major renovations.
I am so sorry for the heating in the tent - we have everthing tested as we have been closed for 2 months to get all renovations done and rewire all the power to make everything fool proof - but unfortunately there was still small errors. Sorry for that. But I am really glad you enjoyed the rest of your stay.

Take care and hope to see you soon on your return visit
Kind Regards
