We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom for two nights. We weren't expecting much based on some pretty scathing Tripadviser reviews and so were pleasantly surprised to discover that the hostel was actually pretty decent. The staff were friendly, the wifi was free and fast, and there were loads of communal areas to relax in. The dorms, kitchen and some of the communal areas did look a little scummy but that is the case in many backpacker hostels. Our room was pleasant and clean. Noise from reception could be heard very clearly but it was surprisingly quiet during the night. The shared bathroom was a little odd - a small bathroom in between two double rooms which each had a door accessing the bathroom. You could lock your neighbour's door from the inside when you were using the bathroom but you need to remember to unlock it again at the end or else they are shut out (this happened to us once). A little strange hearing your neighbour using the shower and toilet so clearly... Overall, a decent option but definitely a backpackers', not a guesthouse/lodge.
