We found the staff at this hotel to be friendly, courteous and exremely helpful.
The setting is idyllic and restful. The food was of a high standard and the hotel had a family orientated welcoming feel about it.

The rooms although comfortable and tastefully decorated would look a lot better without the 70's wall to wall carpeting. I also felt that the bathrooms were in need of a revamp.

It was pleasing to see the horses kept at the resort in such a good and healthy condition.

We had Christmas lunch during our stay, the tables were beautifully decorated and the food and service were excellent.

Room Tip: The views around this hotel are stunning and it is worth paying a little extra to get a room with a...

Thank you so much for reviewing our property. It is always nice to hear such positive comments about Eight Bells.
We are justly proud of our staff and constantly work on maintaining the high standards that we are known for. Our emphasis is certainly on families and we are fortunate to be able to cater to their needs with the facilities that we have on offer.
All rooms have wall to wall carpeting as well as undercarpet heating adding to the comfort especially during winter. We have already revamped some of the bathrooms and bedrooms and will continue this process as funds and time permits.
With lots of good rain over the past few months and the additional daily feeds our horses are in a good shape and we certainly aim to keep it that way.
Christmas lunch at Eight Bells is a big event every year and we thank you for noticing the efforts made.
Thank you for making us your destination of choice and we look forward to welcoming you here again soon.

Kind regards
Rene' Bongers

We spent 2 nights in a Swiss Chalet with fantastic views and a very relaxing ambience. The staff at this hotel are wonderful and the service we received from everyone was outstanding to say the least. The only gripe that I have is that I would rather prefer a shower to a bath which by the way was rather small!

Thank you very much for staying with us and taking the time to review our property . Your positive and kind words is much appreciated.
We are very fortunate to have the wonderful professional staff that we have and grateful that most of them has been with Eight Bells for more than 25 years.
I agree that the baths are a bit small and that adding showers in the bathrooms in Swiss Village would be great. We have been looking into this possibility for a while and will certainly change things as soon as we have worked out what will work best.

Thank you once again for staying with us and we look forward to welcoming you to Eight Bells soon for your next visit.

Kind regards

We have passed by many times, my husband even more so, without ever going in. We did and were so pleased we did.

The first night was in the Palm Court, which was a very well appointed room. The second night we moved to Chalet 4' which had spectacular views, but less well appointed, (no real shower).

Both nights were lovely. Did hear the previously mentioned traffic, but it was not a problem.

Only one suggestion ..... Tea and coffee making in the rooms would have been great, did miss my early morning cuppa!

Dinner was lovely, the mushroom soup absolutely the yummiest mushroom soup we have ever eaten. The staff were attentive and very friendly and it was great to hear many of them had been there years.

The CD in the dining room does however need changing occasionally!!!! 'Tell Laura I love her' at dinner and both breakfasts got a bit repetitive!!!

Room Tip: Pick room in the Palm Court if you like a good shower

Thank you for your positive review, it is much appreciated. We have always provided tea/coffee facilies on a complimentary basis twice daily on the patio, but guests can order early morning tea/coffee from room service. We are currently in the process of implementing the facility in all rooms and it should be done soon. Background music played in the main buildings is done through a computer that randomly selects specific songs from about twenty cd's loaded. Songs are only repeated once the full playlist has been depleted but I will certainly look into the matter.
Thank you once again for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back to Eight Bells Mountain Inn soon.

Rooms 17 to 26 are right alongside the busy Mossel Bay to Oudtshoorn highway, with massive trucks thundering by at almost all hours. After two nights (out of four) we did not notice it so much, but were still woken at 5 a.m. which is when it starts up, having only stopped after 9 p.m. Sorry to introduce this negative note into what is otherwise a truly delightful experience. All other rooms in this scattered complex are well away from the road. The food is excellent, the grounds very pretty, the proximity to many good tourist targets very useful. Just make sure when you book that you specify "not 17-26"!

Room Tip: Keep away from rooms 17 to 26

Thank you for your review on our property. Eight Bells Mountain Inn is situated on the R328 between Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn and as such there are a range of vehicles that pass by the hotel from time to time. Fortunately it is not a busy road and when vehicles do come past it may sound a bit louder than normal as we are situated in such a tranquil setting with very little other sounds apart from the many birds that frequent our gardens.

I apologise for the fact that your rest was disturbed during the first two nights of your stay and appreciate your kind comments on our food, service and gardens. The road may have been busier that usual during your stay but I can assure you that we have many regular guests that specifically ask for our Pool Terrace rooms as they are so comfortable and well situated.

Kind Regards

After a break of a few years we returned to this favorite hotel for a few nights. Whilst the hotel has been sold, it was encouraging to be welcomed by many the staff that still recognized us. The staff are friendly efficient and courteous. Eight Bells presents a rare blend of elegance, comfort, service, good food all in close proximity to nature. We enjoyed lying in bed listening to the frogs at night. The silence and dark of an unillumnated country skyline was refreshing. The lovely walks present interesting terrain, but are not too taxing. Meal times are something to look forward to and represent excellent value for money. The accommodation in the Swiss Village chalets is comfortable with great views of the fields, paddocks and mountains.

Room Tip: While the pool terrace has great views and is convenient, your sleep may be disturbed by the odd pas...

We stayed at Eight Bells overnight. The activities offered (tennis, bowls, horseriding, hiking, etc were of a high standard and we could easily have stayed another day or two. The setting is lovely and the accommodation (we stayed in a wooden chalet) was very comfortables. Everything was well maintained. Probably the only slight blemish was that the quality of the food did not match the quality of the other components on offer, but it was perfectly fine.
