We only got to stay here for 1 night but would have loved to stayed for longer! We had booked a room but were offered an upgrade on arrival free of charge, our room was near the road but it wasnt a problem at night as it was very quiet. The room was large, clean and comfortable with a massive bathroom with a huge walk-in wet room. The evening meal was fantastic, i had the soup to start which was delicious and both my husband and i had steak which was a huge piece cooked to perfection. The breakfast was a buffet except for the cooked things which were made to order. The location is fantastic and there are good facilities like a pool, squash court and horse rides.

We stayed for one night at Eight Bells Inn. The room was well presented but rather small, the bathroom even smaller. The swimming pool and snooker were enjoyable. However we were extremely disappointed with the food. Afternoon tea was advertised but did not appear at the appointed time and just consisted of a help yourself cup of tea or coffee. The baked potato at dinner had been microwaved and the rest of the meal was of a similar quality. At breakfast men were given 2 eggs but ladies only 1.

Thank you for your review of Eight Bells Mountain Inn. We appreciate all reviews as it give us an opportunity to correct any issues that clients may have and highlights all the positive aspects that our great property offers. The Swiss Village Log Cabins are indeed smaller than our other rooms except for the family unit that consists of two bedrooms, a large lounge, bathroom and outside deck area overlooking the mountains. They are very popular with most guests, especially honeymooners, as they are set out separately in the garden and raised on stilts, offering privacy in a quaint comfortable setting.
Although we offer tea and coffee making facilities in all rooms we also offer complimentary morning and afternoon tea/coffee on the inside patio for those guests who wish to interact with each other over a cup of tea. We ring a bell announcing that the tea is ready and although there will always be staff on hand it is essentially a self service offering.
I am very surprised that you did not find our food satisfactory as we get great accolades on a daily basis on the taste and quality of our food and service levels. Our breakfasts are very comprehensive with cereals, porridge, muffins, croissants and a cold buffet spread followed by a choice of eggs, savoury mince, sausage, chicken livers, toast, jams and more with tea or coffee. We certainly have no limit to what any client may consume, as our restaurant staff places the order based on the client’s request.

Thank you staying with us and we invite you to visit us again in the future.

The Eight Bells Inn is in a class of its own for location, scenery and facilities for everyone!
There are inside and outside play areas for children with a pool and paddling pool, donkey rides and horses.
For us there were beautiful flowers everywhere, super cuisine - including the cakes, bowls, tennis courts and trails.
The Wi-Fi was excellent and worked all over Eight Bells Inn.
We used Swartberg Mountain Tours ( Roeland ) for 2 amazing days out - waterfalls, ostriches, sunbirds, caves, wine tasting, Gamkadam and the gorge.
Your camera will definitely work overtime!
Thank you Rene and your Staff.
We will be back!

Room is a very small round cabin separated only by a hedge from a very busy noisy road. The accommodation smells musty and there is no air conditioning. If I'd known no air con would not have booked as my wife is of an age when she is always very hot!!! The bathroom is tiny and there's no shower only a shower head with no fixings - absolutely impossible to have a shower. The decor is reminiscent of my late grandmothers sitting room and by the look of it, the same age and she's been dead over 20 years.

However, the views looking away from the main road are very nice and the service is courteous if very slow.

Dinner is only available at 7pm and there is nothing to do afterwards. Glad our 20 day itinery includes only 3 nights here and that is now two to many.

Thank you for staying at Eight Bells and for taking the time to review our property. It is never nice to hear that the accommodation booked did not meet with the client’s expectations, and I apologise for that. It is a pity that the client did not come and speak to our front desk to ask for a room that offers air-conditioning and a shower as we would then have been able to offer an alternative. Although I cannot pinpoint exactly which room the client stayed in, as we did not have clients that stayed for three nights during the past week, I believe it was one of our rondavels. They are the closest to the road and do not offer showers or air-conditioning.
Our restaurant opens at 19:00 but we do offer an all-day patio menu available to clients throughout the day. We also offer a pub, a historic billiards room and lounge area with a small library for clients after dinner enjoyment plus TV in all rooms with 10 channels. I again apologise that we did not meet with your expectations and trust that you will try us again in the future and discover what thousands of satisfied clients have over the past 85 years.

What a haven of comfort and beauty! We had lunch there today- too late for the set menu on a Sunday but the Ala Carte menu also did it for us! Wonderful friendly people whose tasks it is to please. Absolute value for money. Go there!

family from the UK and RSA met up for a family celebration here. There were 12 of us aged from 10 to 73 and everyone was very happy with their accommodation. The views are stunning, the pool clean, food delicious, staff friendly, and plenty of activities to suit every age group. We were not bothered by the traffic and the only slight criticism was the service was quite slow when ordering any food/drink, either on the terrace or in the dining room. This is no way marred our enjoyment of this lovely venue. We would all definitely love to stay again. Thank you Eight Bells!

Room Tip: rondavels next to the Rose Court rooms hear the traffic.

May I apologise for not responding sooner but I was out of town until now. Thank you very much for the positive feedback regarding our property. We are getting more and more family gatherings booking with us and am glad that we were able to offer something for everyone. We pride ourselves on our high standard of service and it is concerning to hear that you did not experience that throughout your stay. Please accept my apology for the slower than usual service received. Your group's visit co-incided with the annual influx of local visitors making use of our tea garden, and unfortunately our staff were strenched to their limit during this very busy time. This is however no excuse and we will correct this matter to ensure that all staying guests receive the exceptional service levels that we have become known for.

Thank you once again for taking the time to review us and for your positive comments. We are looking forward to your next visit.
Kind regards

We found the staff at this hotel to be friendly, courteous and exremely helpful.
The setting is idyllic and restful. The food was of a high standard and the hotel had a family orientated welcoming feel about it.

The rooms although comfortable and tastefully decorated would look a lot better without the 70's wall to wall carpeting. I also felt that the bathrooms were in need of a revamp.

It was pleasing to see the horses kept at the resort in such a good and healthy condition.

We had Christmas lunch during our stay, the tables were beautifully decorated and the food and service were excellent.

Room Tip: The views around this hotel are stunning and it is worth paying a little extra to get a room with a...

Thank you so much for reviewing our property. It is always nice to hear such positive comments about Eight Bells.
We are justly proud of our staff and constantly work on maintaining the high standards that we are known for. Our emphasis is certainly on families and we are fortunate to be able to cater to their needs with the facilities that we have on offer.
All rooms have wall to wall carpeting as well as undercarpet heating adding to the comfort especially during winter. We have already revamped some of the bathrooms and bedrooms and will continue this process as funds and time permits.
With lots of good rain over the past few months and the additional daily feeds our horses are in a good shape and we certainly aim to keep it that way.
Christmas lunch at Eight Bells is a big event every year and we thank you for noticing the efforts made.
Thank you for making us your destination of choice and we look forward to welcoming you here again soon.

Kind regards
Rene' Bongers
